The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the locations of two temples in the planning stages nearly 10,000 miles apart.

The locations of the Spanish Fork Utah Temple and Beira Mozambique Temple were first revealed in a Jan. 12 news release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. A site map was also included.

Exterior renderings of these two master homes will be released at a later date.

See below for the history of temples and churches in remote parts of the world.

Plans for the Spanish Fork Temple call for a high-rise building of approximately 80,000 square feet. The structure will be built on an 8.7-acre site and will include attached buildings. It will be built at the corner of 100 South and 2550 East in Spanish Fork, Utah.

On April 6, 2025, then-Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the establishment of the House of the Lord in Spanish Fork. This was the last temple he unveiled before his death in September 2025.

Utah’s 32 temples in various stages include Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Jordan River, Layton, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo Rock Canyon, Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville, Vernal.

Of these dedicated temples, the Salt Lake Temple closed on December 29, 2019, and the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple closed on February 24, 2024.

Four houses of the Lord are under construction in Utah: Lyndon Temple (starting April 2022), Smithfield Temple (June 2022), Ephraim Temple (August 2022), and Heber Valley Temple (October 2022).

Notably, the Lindon Temple is scheduled to be dedicated on May 3, 2026.

This leaves four temples in the planning and design stages: West Jordan (to be announced in 2024), Lehi (2024), Price (2024), and Spanish Fork (2025).

The first wagon of Latter-day Saint pioneers arrived in Utah Territory on July 24, 1847. Nearly 180 years later, approximately 2.2 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ live in Utah.

The Beira Temple, the first house of the Lord announced in Mozambique, is planned as a one-story temple measuring approximately 10,000 square feet. The 2.5-acre site will include user residences and arrival facilities.

The proposed Temple of the 24th of July in Beira, Mozambique, will be located next to an existing congregation.

President Nelson announced the construction of a temple in Beira during general conference on April 4, 2021. It was one of 20 temple locations he identified at the time, along with two other African cities: Kumasi, Ghana, and Cape Town, South Africa.

In addition to the Temple of Beira, another House of the Lord is planned to be built in Mozambique. The Maputo Temple in Mozambique was announced in October 2024 and is still in the planning and design stages.

The church received official recognition from the Mozambican government nearly 30 years ago in February 1996. The country’s first Beira Mozambique District was established on April 13, 2003, with approximately 650 members coming together for its establishment.

Subsequently, on February 15, 2015, a stake called the Maputo Mozambique Stake was created. Ten years later, the country now has 10 stakes.

Mozambique is home to approximately 32,000 Latter-day Saints in 80 congregations.
