We believe that each day we are appointed by God to fulfill our purpose and impact others forever. and bring glory to God. All we need is the eye to discern these divine appointments and the boldness to act on them.

As I have walked with God over the past 50 years, seeing and missing His appointments, I have learned that each time I specifically ask for His appointment to serve someone, make a difference, glorify God, or share the gospel, God gives it to me. Perhaps by asking for them, I will be more attentive to recognizing them when they appear before me. Every time you ask for a promise from God (or an eye to see someone who is already in front of you), I am confident that He will give it to you too. That belief is based on 1 John 5:14-15. This Bible tells us that if we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears our requests, and if we know that He hears whatever we ask, then we can receive what we ask of God. It is definitely God’s will that we participate in God’s appointment and “good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10, NASB). So seeking God’s promises and acting on them builds faith.

7. Whisper his name

There are times when we need God, but we don’t know what to say or where to start. First say the name of the Lord, then speak the cry of your heart. The Bible says there is power in the name of Jesus. Not only because “salvation is found in no one else” (Acts 4:12), but also because Jesus responds to His name when loved ones call on Him.

Classical writers called this type of whispered cry “breathing prayer.” My breathing prayer to feel Jesus’ presence is “Jesus, I need you” or “Jesus, give me a heart for you.” Calling on the Lord’s name as often as you breathe is one of the easiest ways to feel His presence and remember that He is there. I believe that the simplest cry is the one that penetrates the heart of God and our hearts the quickest. And when we call on God’s name and feel His presence, it builds our faith.

“You don’t need to know exactly what’s going on or where everything is going. What you need to do is recognize the possibilities and challenges that this moment presents and embrace them with courage, faith, and hope.” – Thomas Merton. In this episode of Talk About That, we have a conversation about the “pursuit of happiness” and why adapting to challenges is a much better goal.
