For members of the Cedar Factory Oregon stock of Latter-day Saints’ Church of Jesus Christ, service is something everyone can take part in.

Young people and adults gather throughout the year for a variety of service projects that not only bring about stock unity, but also benefit people from the community.

Every year, youth service day is meticulously planned, with a focus on the needy organizations and the needs of young people.

Monica Carlson, the young female president of the stake, explained that the planned activities were to strengthen relationships among young people and allow them to become part of the “bond experience.”

Emily Bell, JustServe coordinator for Cedar Mill Oregon Stakes, said these activities require “a hefty effort.”

She explained that the Communications Council will meet three to six months ago to plan a service project that will benefit the stock and its community.

Place to serve

Over 200 youth service day in 2024, April 13th, 2024, were attended by over 200 youth service.

The young people have decided to help food insecurity by preparing and packing more than 1,000 bagged lunches filled with sandwiches prepared by the young people, granola bars and Clementine.

Split into stations, young people used talent to use the best talent. For some, it was preparing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. For others, they used their artistic skills, decorated brown paper bags and filled them with thoughtful handwritten notes.

The notes were written with messages of courage, love and hope. Some were written for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Some have beautifully drawn images, including the Bible.

All young people, regardless of skill level, were used in the process. There was a place for everyone to serve.

Lunch will be assembled and donated to Blanche House, an organization based in Portland, Oregon, providing food and hospitality to those in need.

The youngster just didn’t stop there. In addition to lunch, I collected glasses and donated to Lions Club International, filled with prescriptions for those in need. The Soles4Souls organization was also given shoes. Personalized cards were given and decorated to honor our precious elder organization.

This activity continues to attract young people who stake in finding the purpose they serve and working together to have a positive impact on their community.

“One of the beautiful things about doing a service project is taking you outside of your daily life,” Carlson said. “It makes you see your life from a different perspective.”

Find the purpose of serving

On November 23, 2024, around 250 young people and adults gathered from the bet in collaboration with the Portland rescue team.

After being served a breakfast of pancakes by their stake president, everyone began to assemble and work on fresh kits.

By the end of the service project, 200 kits had been created and 900 pairs of socks had been donated. What remains from Sock Drive has been donated to Project Homeless Connect.

Bell shared that these activities have united young people and stake members as they found the purpose of serving God and others around them.

Cedar Mill Oregon stake members are anticipating another day of service in the coming April to collaborate with other faith cooperation.

Carlson shared that these young people are accepting an invitation from President Nelson to “gather Israel.” Invite them to invite their faith to brighten up the day for those in need. . ”

God’s Light and Love

Throughout the planning process for these service projects, it was explained that she was her testimony to her Heavenly Father’s love. “It gave me a sense of care,” Bell testified. Bell saw God’s care for his children being inspired to find someone who needs God’s light and love, so God’s care for his children is revealed. I explained that

As these service projects have built community ties and relationships, they have helped members of the Cedar Mill Oregon Stake find a purpose in love and service to others around them.

Carlson added: You know, we don’t know, but we know that such things have meaning across the boundaries of religion and life.
