Attachment parenting emphasizes intimacy and responsiveness, but it is not intended to be an unbalanced and rigid approach.

As Christians, we know that family health and connection are not limited to the needs of children alone, but come from the nurturing and care of everyone in the home. Husbands and wives need intimate time together. Older children need guidance and attention. And when someone is ignored, other family members feel the burden too.

The Bible reminds us that the marriage contract is worth keeping and prioritizing. And we are commanded to “raise a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old, he will not depart from his path” (Proverbs 22:6 KJV).

Balancing it all requires mindfulness and intentionality, sometimes leaning into attachment parenting, and sometimes adjusting methods to fit family dynamics. Dr. Sears explains: “Parenting is too personal, and babies are too complex, so there’s only one way to do it.”

As you navigate the challenges of parenting and family life, remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:33. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Seeking God first is always the best course of action. It will guide you on your path and give you wisdom on your parenting journey. Give yourself permission to explore your options, change course if necessary, and raise your children with grace and gratitude.

Lord, you know how hard I struggle to balance everything. Life is so busy that getting married and raising children can be overwhelming. Please calm my nerves and give me time to think, pray, and prepare. I love my family and want to take good care of them. How can I utilize the Attachment Parenting Style when it’s beneficial, and try other methods when needed? I trust your method more than any parenting method and I aim to live according to your plan. Listen to your voice above all others and use your maternal instincts to help you meet your baby’s needs. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Parents naturally want to protect their children from disappointment and failure, but sometimes our help can actually hinder their growth. In this episode, Shaunti and Jeff discuss the growing trend of “snowplow parenting,” where parents try to remove all obstacles from their child’s path. Through stories, research insights, and practical wisdom, they explore how well-meaning parents can unintentionally prevent their children from learning resilience and responsibility. Learn why accepting natural outcomes can actually be a gift, and how you can support your children without taking away all the challenges ahead. Is that what you heard?
