Forgiveness absolutely changes everything, and it is a commandment from the Lord.

Also, at the heart of the gospel, it is often difficult for humans to see in the past the various forms of pain and fear given to others.

Listen to the latest episodes of “Quick Start”

Actor Tim Allen, like many of us, struggles to provide pardon to the drunk driver who killed his father when the performer was only 11 years old.

But something happened recently that changed all that for Allen. Someone else’s incredible act of forgiveness gave him the motivation to provide it to the man who caused pain to his family.

Erica Kirk, wife of conservative and Christian commentator Charlie Kirk, surprised the world on Sunday when she stood on stage at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, forgave the man who allegedly murdered her husband.

“On the cross, our Savior said: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” That man – I forgive him. “The answer to hatred is not hatred. The answer – we know from the gospel – is love. It is love. It is love for the enemy. It is love for those who persecute us.”

These words led to cheers and tears amongst people, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the death of her husband.

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on September 10th, sending shockwaves around the world. His wife made the bold decision to openly forgive the murderer – and that influenced Allen.

When Erica Kirk spoke to the man who killed her husband, “That guy… that young man… I’ll forgive him,” that moment had a deep impact on me. I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my father. As I type these words now. “I’ll forgive a man…

– Tim Allen (@ofctimallen) September 25, 2025

“When Erica Kirk spoke to the man who killed her husband, “‘That guy… that young man… I’ll forgive him’ – that moment had a deep impact on me,” Allen wrote in X.

The “House Improvement” star continued. “I now type those words, “I forgive the man who killed my father.” Stay with everyone. ”

Allen’s father, Gerald M. Dick, died in November 1964 when his car was hit by a drunk driver.

“(My father) died of a broken neck and a mother’s knee,” Allen told “Inside the Actor’s Studio” in 2006.

Allen navigates forgiveness and continues to pray for the Kirk family, so they navigate what they can’t even think.
