13-year-old Dakota “Cody” Trenkul Jr. is making a miraculous recovery after spending three days without food or water after falling into a 240-foot valley.

According to KSDK-TV, Cody is awake after spending 11 days in a medically induced coma.

Her mother, Stephanie Neely, knew that her son would recover, she said, used the sign language symbol so that he saw her, “I love you.”

“I cried,” she said from her bedside at Glennon Children’s Hospital Cardinal in St. Louis, Missouri. “I started to get bored. That was a really necessary sign. …I finally got to take a deep breath and finally, in my mother’s mind, I slept that night.”

The fact that Cody has been discovered is incredible.

The young teenager went missing on July 27th near Goose Creek Lake after falling off his skateboard. For nearly 80 hours, families and volunteers coordinated the thick forest until July 30th.

Three days after Cody’s miserable fall, his brother finds his skateboard. Then, a K-9 named Daryl, with its Farmington Correction Center, was able to pick up Cody’s scent and track it down with a 240-foot drop.

The rescuer found Cody at the bottom of the valley and lay on his feet in the water. Despite three days of burnt fever, severe cerebral hemorrhage, pneumonia, and wounds from the elements, he was alive. He was soon airlifted to St. Louis and placed in a pediatric ICU where doctors sedate him and kept him on a ventilator for a week.

He began showing signs of waking up on Friday, and was wary on Saturday enough to sign “I Love You.”

“When he asked if he knew this was mom, he nodded,” Neely said. “I told him, ‘I love you,’ he showed me the sign. That moment was forever monumental to me.

In fact, the first thing Cody wanted was McDonald’s soda, just like a good teenager.

“We waited an hour and he got the coke,” Cody’s mother said.

Cody’s life is plagued by miracles. According to his mother, he was born as a “super premier.” He said, “I knew he was a fighter since he was born.”

“He fought for his life at the time, and now, almost 14 years later, he’s doing it again,” she said. “It’s just to prove to all of us how strong, how resilient he is, how stubborn he is, and how honestly saved his life. He didn’t give up. He’s still proven to everyone that he’ll finally come out two weeks after he’s gone missing.

His doctors warn Cody that he has a long recovery, but as his mother said, he is definitely a recipient of a true miracle.

“We are now on the right path and just want everyone to follow his thoughts and prayers,” Neely said. “He’s a miracle.”

Pray for Cody as he continues to recover. If you want to contribute to his medical expenses, you can donate to his GoFundMe account.
