Prayer for strength when you feel lonely

It was a date night, and Mike and I were caught up in a conversation about what today’s struggle was at home. We settled in a small outdoor bistro set at a streetside diner, hidden in a quaint part of town where solo passersby and couples were standard for an evening walk. When a woman led by her mid-sized dog companion passed by, Mike commented, “At least, there’s no need to worry about being alone.” I had to immediately replied, “You’re right, we are blessed with a house of seven, and we always have a company.” But instead of agreeing, my heart felt a fragile and lonely stab.
Some of my lonely times were in the middle of a circle full of people, exploded with busy seams within a few days, and the unfortunate realization emerged that there were moments and seasons that were rarely in fact alone. Mike says, what if everyone this woman has is her dog and there is little human connection? And if that’s true, she may definitely feel overwhelmed by loneliness. But the reality you may have witnessed is that loneliness doesn’t always depend on the number of people around you.
Have you felt lonely recently? Or can you remember a situation that tends to bring that feeling to your soul? Maybe when your house was empty every day. Or when you show up in the office and feel like no one knows you for too long. Alternatively, you can rethink instances repeatedly with small gatherings or large events when it seems like the soul doesn’t notice you, talk to you, or feel invisible throughout the room. Regardless of the number of people near me or you, I feel that the loneliness we feel is the result of what we feel and what we care for. And when you are experiencing these feelings, loneliness can easily defeat you.
In an age where you can be involved in this struggle, and perhaps now, I want to encourage you with this reinforced reminder. I know this, and maybe you do, but the truth is, you just want to see someone in the body too. We all do that. And I believe that if we receive this particular request, mainly, he will listen and respond in time. But more than anything, I think he wants us to learn more and more to rely on him alone. And to truly grasp his love and care as a beloved son and daughter. Because his love is the only love that will not fail us. He knows that people will undoubtedly disappoint us, and he wants to teach us to rely heavily on him and to draw our strength and joy out of his immeasurable love.
Today I pray that you will begin to grasp the long, deep and deep love of Christ. When solitude begins, place your soul in Christ’s love and draw strength, joy and communion out of God’s fulfillment.
Let’s pray:
God the Father, you are my constant companion. And when this world seems like no one is, or no one is aware of me, I feel alone, but you are there. Your love will never leave me, your eyes will always look at me, and your gentle care will be there constantly to comfort me. Lord, I want to have earthly friends to share my heart and life. Please listen to my prayers. But most importantly, please teach me to understand the depth of your love. Please help me rely solely on you and find a relationship in front of you. And help me to gain strength and joy from your fulfillment. I know you will never fail me, and I praise you. Your rich name, Amen.
