Prayer when there are too many
By Keri Eichberger

Bible Reading:
“In the same way, the spirit helps us with our weaknesses. We don’t know what to pray for, but the spirit itself is intertwined for us through a speechless moan.” – Romans 8:26

Listen or read:

My body began to sway. As the ER nurse practitioner put it in the fact, “What I started to break with a trembling terror that I hadn’t said, “The results make it clear that you actually have a blood clot. I’m so happy.” And before she spoke another word, the mental load was getting too heavy and my body quickly broke. It is proven by a trembling shock and a desperate grab to calmly wipe out me. Embarrassingly, my first coherent idea was barium my doctor prescribed for surgery a week ago if necessary. The words could not be processed beyond confirmation of results the nurse had not heard. So, by chatting, I sought the dose of prescribed relief to help me settle my presence. Sadly saying it, I couldn’t even pray. With my rehearsed moments of surprise, stress, and struggle, that’s exactly what I did. However, at this point, my autoresponders did not follow suit. The only action I’m proud of is that I didn’t stop and fall to my knees and didn’t ask God to mediate me, but I picked up my phone and asked someone else on my behalf.

Can you think of situations or moments that you find too heavy to deal with? Maybe it was sudden bad news, or maybe it was a slow, hard colour that finally pushed you off a comparative cliff. You want to report that you have turned your eyes quickly to God and prayed for your heart for the peace you need, but you freeze and see that you are not your nearest person, or your Almighty Father, to provide salvation.

I think it’s important to note that I don’t believe I do. Or pour to avoid paying the autopilot prayer. As a follower of Christ, I have not only immersed myself in the peace of the Lord, but I have also devoted much time to prayer. And I will continue to return to this precious time again and again in his presence. But here is the beautiful promise of moments when we, as followers, feel too weak, too distracted, or too overcoming, too often to cry out to God. When it is too much, you have little words, so the Holy Spirit will serve you. He knows what you need, he knows the purity of your heart, he knows that you are a unique human intricately designed by the hands of your father. When you cannot pray, you are still covered in prayer.

Friends, you and I will never leave the power and protection of our father’s existence. And the next morning, during my daily prayer time at home, when I praised God’s protection, I recall how he covered and carried the day, and how he carried me with the Holy Spirit and many prayers of his people. Yes, in those moments like me, when you don’t have the ability to go to God, he knows that your heart still wants your heart. He knows the investment you have already made in him that you have already chosen to lean towards him, as you have grown along your spiritual journey. He knows the decision you made to put your faith over and over again. And your heart longs for never to stop. When you received Jesus in your heart, you also received the Holy Spirit. And for this reason, God will never leave you. So even when it feels like it’s all too much, we can feel at ease even when we don’t know what to pray for… the spirit himself intervenes for us. I pray that this promise will comfort you and give you peace.

Let’s pray:

Powerful God, you will always be by my side. When I call you, and even when I forget. And I have to confess, it can be too much and I have little ability to think about screaming far more for your care. But Father, when I accepted your son into my heart, you provided me with a constant filling of the Holy Spirit so that I would never leave me. So, when you call you as often as possible, I assure you that you are delighted, yet you are delighted to be faithful to me. And this is such a gift. A gift of bounty that I can rest. I appreciate your constant presence and protection just because I am your child. I cherished it forever. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
