Prayers inspired by Rahab’s faithfulness
Written by: Chelsey Dematteis, Read by: Lia Girard

Bible Reading: “But she brought them to the roof and hid the flax stems she placed on the roof.” – Joshua 2:6

Read or listen to the following:

When you chose to be faithful to God, did you take your time to look back at the seasons of your life and that changed all the other trajectories afterwards? There are some of the moments that stand out to me, so I challenge you to think about some of the things that stand out. Take the time to write them down and study the lives of biblical women who did this.

When we study the Bible, we found a place across the pages where people made one choice to stay true to the situation God put them in, and it changed everything not just them, but for generations. Looking at Rahab’s life, we see the power of God in her life through faithful deeds. Let’s thaw together:

Joshua 2:8-14 said, “Before the man lay down, he approached them on the roof and said to the man, “The Lord has given you the land, and I know that all the inhabitants of your land have melted before you. Jordan, and Og, whom you have melted quickly when you heard it, and for you, no spirit remains for you. Mother, my brothers and sisters, and they belong to them, and save our lives from death. And the man said to her, “If you do not speak to our business, when the Lord gives us the land, we will deal with you kindly and faithfully.”

If you have never heard of Rahab, considering your resume on paper, it was very unlikely that she would be used by God. She was known as a prostitute in her community, and then I think it’s safe to assume that she’s not included much in the women around her. I think her heart was hardened, sad, full of broken things.

When God sent spies to the land they would soon conquer, they met Rahab in search of help, and one of the most incredible moments unfolds to testify. Rahab says, “Because we have heard of it” (10 vs.), she continues to testify of everything she and her people have heard. She knew these men were God’s people, and the power of their testimony changed her heart forever.

She chose to deal with these men faithfully and hide them. She chose to be faithful to God, but she had not had a strong relationship with him. What followed her one act of faith led to a generational change. Her faithfulness to God led these people to deal with her and her family faithfully and kindly. If we look further down the line, Rahab is in the blood of Jesus.

Watching this unfold in the lives of Rahab, we all want to live a faithful life, both big and small. We should hope to become believers marked by God’s testimony. To be such a believer means saying yes when God urges him, and “no” when God says stop. It is discerning and seeks wisdom. I trust in God to plan all the details before the choice of faithfulness begins to move.

Let’s pray:
Lord, thank you for the gift of loyalty. What a gift to see how you were faithful from the beginning of time. Help us choose loyalty, big and small. Bring my heart closer to your heart as I am about to be marked by your goodness and grace. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
