Our mothers are wonderful people in our lives. Personally, my mother has been a lighthouse in my life. When she passed away, my life changed forever. No more hugs after school, no more congratulations on my birthday, no more words of encouragement when I failed a test. God met me in my pain. Although I miss my mother every day, I can still honor her through memories.
Perhaps you are a new mom or want to honor your own mother. Instead of overlooking yourself or the other mothers in your life, choose to rely on the Bible. The Bible helps mothers feel valued, loved, and needed. God’s word contains only truth. Therefore, there is no reason to doubt it. For example, when the Bible says we are children of God (1 John 3:1), it means we are truly children of God.
Let go of negative thoughts and challenge yourself to see yourself as God sees you. You are a loving mom, a strong sister, and an amazing wife. May God’s word uplift you today. Here are seven Bible verses to encourage and honor mothers.
1. Psalm 139:13-14
“You created my innermost being and knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works, for I know them” (Psalm 139:13-14).
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. What does this mean in your own life? Are you taking this blessing seriously? You were not created carelessly. Instead, God created you with a purpose. The woman God created you to be is a strong, brave, independent woman and mother. Trust God and allow Him to shape you as a person, not the world’s voices.
2. Ephesians 2:10
“We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).
What are the voices in your head telling you right now? Are they saying you’re wrong? Sadly, many of us struggle with this idea. Rather than feeding into it, we must remember that we are God’s workmanship. The New Living Translation says we are God’s masterpiece. Please accept this truth for a moment.
You are God’s handiwork, a masterpiece, a piece of craftsmanship. This paints an image of you as beautiful, wonderful, and wonderful. Never doubt your worth in God’s eyes. God has a special plan for your life. If you continue to have negative feelings about yourself, you will not be able to realize these plans. That is why you must step out in faith.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways follow him, and he will make your paths straight.” Trust that God is speaking about you, not the world. Shifting your perspective to think about God instead of the world’s lies will fundamentally change your life and prepare you to become the woman and mother God created you to be.
3. Song of Songs 4:7
“Beloved, you are absolutely beautiful; you are without fault” (Songs of Songs 4:7).
As women, it’s very common for us to feel negatively about ourselves because of our appearance. I also used to worry about the appearance of my nose. I automatically thought it was ugly because it looked different from the rest. I needed to grow in Christ before I could fully embrace my appearance. God says I am beautiful just the way I am and He says the same about you.
Song of Songs 4:7 shows us this truth. We are beautiful in God’s eyes. In the end, God’s opinion of us is the only thing that matters. We must rely on God’s Word instead of listening to the insults of others. He says we are beautiful, so we are beautiful. What an amazing blessing to know our Lord and Savior.
4. Genesis 1:26-27
“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, so that they may have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the livestock, and over all the wild animals, and over every living thing that moves along the earth.” Therefore, God created man in his own image, and in the image of God he created them. He created them male and female” (Genesis 1:26-27).
In the beginning, God created man and woman. Despite the patriarchal world we live in, God never said men were better than women. God created men and women equally, as we are created in His image. Don’t listen to the world’s lies that tell you that you’re not good enough, that you can’t do things as well as men, that you were created only to get married and have children. God says you are enough, you are capable of amazing things, and He created you with a greater purpose.
You are created directly in the image of God. This means you are a reflection of God’s creativity, character, and heart. When you feel weak or tired, find joy and encouragement in this truth. God created all people equal and does not want you to think that you are inferior to others. We are all created by the same God and are beloved in His eyes (Romans 8:37-39).
5. Esther 4:14
“For if you keep silent at this time, the salvation and deliverance of the Jews will come from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows, except that you have come to the position of king at such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
As with Esther, God created you with a special purpose. Instead of running away from your goal, run toward it. Serve the Lord using the blessings, gifts, talents, and abilities He has given you. Allow this truth to encourage and honor you.
6. Colossians 2:9-10
“For in Christ all the fullness of God lives in the flesh, and in Him you are full; Christ is the head over all power and authority” (Colossians 2:9-10).
Whenever we worry about not feeling good enough, we must meditate on God’s Word. From Colossians 2:9-10 we learn that we are complete in Christ. This means we lack nothing. Therefore, we have no reason to believe that we are not good enough because we are complete in Christ. Anyone or anything that tries to tell us otherwise is a liar. You are an amazing mother, wife, and friend.
7. 2 Timothy 1:7
“For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid, but gives us power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7).
What emotions are you currently experiencing? Fear, doubt, anxiety? Change these feelings with God’s Word. From the moment you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives within you. The Holy Spirit will not bring negative emotions into your heart. In return, God will give you power, love, and self-control.
Surrender to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and find joy in His presence. Whenever you are suffering, talk to God and ask for help. Don’t underestimate what the Holy Spirit can do in your life. God will encourage you, strengthen you, and ensure your growth in Christ.
