As evangelicals serve as such a fundamental platform for support for President Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy, the new polls have come to terms with these new minted Trump administration’s key issue: immigration. Shedding light on Christian views.

Listen to the latest episodes of “Quick Start”

According to Lifeway Research, a new study shows evangelicals support “both safe borders and laws that provide a pathway for certain illegal immigrants to gain legal status.” .

The majority of evangelicals (61%) voted for Trump, with only 33% voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Since the election, Trump has implemented many changes, mainly immigrants and refugees. This is a controversial decision. It is unclear where the refugee programmes will go from here in particular, but evangelicals (70%) believe that America has a moral responsibility to forgive refugees, and 23% believe they disagree.

As Trump moves to deport illegal immigrants, the investigation finds evangelicals believe criminals and dangerous individuals should be prioritized amid crackdowns.

Seven in ten (67%) want the main focus on those convicted of violent crimes, while 63% say they have the same “reasonable suspicions of presenting threats to national security.” It’s there.

A small percentage of evangelicals (19%) will support deporting people who were illegally transported as children. Most support for deportation includes the aforementioned factors surrounding violent crime and potential threats to national security.

“The majority of evangelicals illegally want domestic immigrants to prioritize deportation unless they are convicted of a violent crime or pose a threat to national security. plug” . “We value less than a sixth of evangelicals deport undocumented immigrants whose immediate family has legal status or have been in the country for more than five years.”

He continued, “These are their neighbors and families they don’t want to split up.”

When it comes to future laws, evangelicals have an interesting balance. The majority (80%) should pass new laws that are important this year, and should already make it easier for some people in the US to become citizens, and illegal immigration is not aligned. I think it’s difficult to get into the border.

Here you can read the full results of Lifeway Research.

The online survey of 1,004 Americans was conducted January 13-21, 2025 and was sponsored by World Rescue, the National Latinos Evangelical Union and the Evangelical Immigration Table.
