Prayers to bring our children back to school
By Lynette Kittle

Bible Reading:
“Jesus said, “Please don’t let the little children come to me and prevent them, for heaven belongs to these things” – Matthew 19:14

Listen or read:

Jitter returned on the first day is real. Oh, remembering starting the New Year with a new teacher, fellow students and class is mixed with a sense of uncertainty about its newness and experiences over the past few years. Growing up, we moved a lot, so I took part in three different sixth grade classes in a year. Each brought my belly a first day. Basically, I was hoping to start over again, with new teachers, class structures, fellow students, new lunchroom rules, and getting on the bus.

So today, when you see kids waiting in new clothes, shoes and backpacks for a new grade, it triggers and brings the stomach back to the first day of school jitter. When I walk and drive by the students waiting for the bus or walking from school, my heart bothers me to pray for them, despite not knowing their names or grades, because they were there and God gave me the opportunity to pray for them.

Prayer is not permitted at school

Sadly, some groups have worked to prevent prayers for their children when they go to school, but they have been able to prevent teachers and districts from openly guiding students’ prayers at school, but they cannot silence their children’s prayers. We know that no matter how hard we try, it can’t leave school. Through Jesus Christ, God has given us a direct line that we cannot take away the law or rule from us.

Maybe their restrictions will prevent us from screaming it in school hallways or in school buses, but we pray for prayers, prayers cannot be stopped and there is no ruling that can take it from us. Bishop Ee Jackson, founder and president of the Stand (who remains loyal to the nation’s fate of America), said:

Bishop Jackson wrote: “The irony is that the prohibition of prayer was never a constitutional requirement. The decision not only changed the law, but worse still changed the culture.

Still, we cannot attend classes or extracurricular activities, pray for students to pray, genuinely remove prayers from school, or give court decisions, so that students do not take God’s Word into their hearts. As parents, we can teach our children what poem sal 119:11 teaches.

God calls us to pray for our children. As Lament 2:19 explains, “When the night clock begins, I will cry out at night. I will pour your heart in the presence of the Lord like water. Lift up my hand to him for the life of your child who will be stunned from hunger at all the street corners.”

Praying when children return to school is the most powerful habit we can do to prepare for another grade, trusting God to hear, listen and answer our prayers.

Let’s pray:

Dear Father,
We lift our voices with prayers for our children when they return to another grade. Watch over them, we ask, protect them in their way, protect their hearts and hearts while they are introduced to new knowledge, learn to sift through your holy words, so that they can recognize the truth from errors. Thank you for surrounding them with your kindness like a shield and for blessing them as they enter school and come out. It strengthens and helps them to thrive and succeed in all their research and activities. Lead their steps, walk in your way, please you, and lead you to praise your name with everything they do. As Psalm 119:105 explains, make your words into lamps of your feet, and light in their way. “Flexibly soften their hearts towards you, your parents and family.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
