Tributes are pouring in for Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the rock band 3 Doors Down, who passed away on Saturday after a battle with kidney cancer.

The 47-year-old’s death was announced in a statement from the band, with the ensemble announcing that Arnold passed away after a “courageous” battle with illness.

“Above all, he was a devoted husband to Jennifer, and his kindness, humor and generosity touched everyone who was fortunate enough to know him,” the statement read in part. “Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but also his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

As CBN News reported last year, Arnold asked for prayers after revealing he was battling stage 4 cancer. He revealed on his Instagram account that he had been diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma, which was discovered after he fell ill and was treated at a hospital.

“Today we have some not-so-good news,” he said in the video, noting that infections are spreading. “It’s spread to my lungs, it’s stage 4, and I’m not doing well.”

Despite the difficult diagnosis, Arnold, an outspoken Christian, said he trusts the Lord. Not surprising given his devout Christian beliefs.

“We serve a great God and He will overcome anything,” he said. “So I’m not afraid of anything. I’m really, really not afraid at all.”

Arnold apologized for canceling Three Doors Down’s summer tour and asked fans for prayers.

“Please lift me up in prayer,” he said, ending by telling believers, “God loves you.”

Arnold had become known for sharing the gospel during concerts.

In August 2024, before belting out the band’s song “Away from the Sun” at his show, Arnold told the audience that two years ago he started feeling the need to share an important message with fans during his performances.

He then asked for a moment to let the thousands of people gathered know that God loves them, according to PennLive.com.

“I feel like I relate to this song more than most of our songs,” he said in a moving monologue, calling “Away from the Sun” his favorite of the band’s ballads. “This world is surrounded by messages that we will never be good enough, we will never be strong enough, we will never be beautiful enough, we will never be rich enough.”

Arnold didn’t stop there, calling out the “lies” he believes are perpetuated on social media and other aspects of life: that we will never be truly loved and that we will never “win.”

“I just want to tell you guys, that’s completely false,” he said. “You are loved. You are enough, and you will win. You will not only win, you will win. You will always be enough for one reason: Because Jesus Christ loves you.”

Other online videos and posts indicate that Arnold is used to sharing his faith on stage and has made similar statements at other Three Doors Down shows.

He has also been vocal about his faith on social media.

“Many prayers for all the kids going back to school,” he wrote in a past Instagram post while sharing text and images from Deuteronomy 31:6. The verse says, “The Lord your God goes with you.”

Please pray for Arnold’s family and loved ones as they mourn this loss.
