The Temple Square conference center will be closed for 11 months in preparation for the Salt Lake Temple’s six-month open house next year.

However, it will be open for General Conference and other major scheduled events, such as Luz de las Naciones and the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert. Conference Center parking and parking elevator access will remain available during this time.

From March 30, 2026 to March 1, 2027, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Conference Center in Salt Lake City will be closed to the public.

According to a communication sent to church officials on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the purpose of the closure is “to facilitate significant construction, infrastructure upgrades, and exhibit development in preparation for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration.”

It continued: “This operational outage is essential to enable the project team to carry out a significantly expanded scope of work and ensure the facility is fully ready to support the enhanced guest experience planned for 2027.”

All use of the conference center by church departments, including meetings, training and social events, will be suspended during the closure period, according to a Feb. 18 news release from ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The temple is scheduled to reopen to the public from April to October 2027. The late President Russell M. Nelson announced the public launch in a social media post on February 14, 2025, saying, “We warmly invite our friends to come learn about God’s plan for His children and rejoice in the love of Jesus Christ.”

The news release also included updates on the Salt Lake Temple renovation project and information about the Easter display on Temple Square.

Finishing work is progressing on the temple’s baptistery. Carpet, seating and chandeliers were recently added.

Removal of the exterior scaffolding continues. The demolition, announced last month, is scheduled to last until mid-March 2026.

During the Easter season, the public can visit Temple Square and view exhibits and visual installations. These Easter exhibits, highlighting the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, will be installed from the end of February.

These include an increased focus on the Savior’s teachings, miracles, redemption, and resurrection.

In February 2025, President Dallin H. Oaks encouraged viewers in a video to build strong Christ-centered traditions around Easter.

President Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, then testified that Christ was resurrected. “Let us prepare for Easter, a celebration of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, culminating in the most glorious event in history: His Resurrection.”
