Pastor Jentezen Franklin is on a transformative mission to explore the power of prayer during a time of turmoil and uncertainty in American culture and around the world.
Franklin, who has published a new book, The Power of Short Prayers, said he announced the project because he believes many people “don’t understand what prayer is.”
“Jesus commented in Matthew 7:6, ‘Do not pray like the Pharisees pray, for they think they will be heard because they have many words,'” he said. “So Jesus said, longer prayers, that’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for your heart. I want to hear your heart.”
Franklin went on to say, “The greatest miracles in the New Testament occur in the Old Testament when people simply prayed a short prayer.”
These prayers have “great purpose, great passion, great urgency,” and the preacher believes these elements are important to the success of the prayers, he said.
“It’s the urgency behind the prayer and the faith attached to it,” he said. “The important thing is not how long you pray, but how short you believe, and whether you believe in the power of short prayers.…People feel that if they don’t pray an hour a day, they have really betrayed the Lord.”
There, Franklin focuses on short prayers from the Bible and encourages people to pray about their families: children, marriage, business, and other aspects. Franklin said people start with short prayers and eventually progress to longer prayers as they “continue to pray.”
In his own journey, the preacher has seen how God has worked through prayer for family, ministry, and other life issues. Franklin believes that prayer not only heals and helps individuals’ lives, but also our culture.
And the “power of a short prayer” occurs when many people are experiencing a culture that they believe is a spiritual rebirth.
“I think there’s a revival happening,” Franklin said. “We’ve certainly seen that in the ministry and in the church.”

The assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk appears to have caused what Franklin described as “agitations” among young people. Prayer is a tool that helps people get through these changes and many others.
Mr. Franklin said, “I believe that God’s movements on campus and elsewhere are about to begin and are showing strong movement.I believed and prayed that this was the result of many prayers that had been accumulated.” “These are exciting times, and I believe pastors are being called to lead and steward the powerful movements of the Spirit. This is a wonderful time to be alive.”
The preacher implored Christians to take action, but he did not stop there.
“The end times are not happening to God’s people,” Franklin said. “God’s people are awake until the end, and God’s hand is upon us now. But we must pray and we must fast. When you pray, you are storing up your prayers so that God can do great things.”
