Prayers of encouragement during the waiting season

Bible Reading:
“For him, according to his powers working within us now, that we can do more immeasurable than everything we ask or imagine.” – Ephesians 3:20

My morning dedication started with one of my favorite poems and immediately started to tears. Is it incalculable, really? I don’t feel “more”. I didn’t have it. I was waiting for an answer to a particular prayer, but fewer and fewer of them seemed to come to me. And I wore it lightly. Did I wonder how patient and hopefully I could wait? However, as tears began to flow, a sudden spiritual change struck. God spoke directly to my soul… Oh dear child, your eyes are in the wrong. Look how much I gave you that you just didn’t look. And my eyes opened like a breakthrough of light that was shadowed by its focus on the comforts of the world. I was focusing on some of the bigger gifts I was given, like my marriage, my family, my friendship, and the blessings of love and community within the church we love, but I was waiting for pain relief, financial relief, and various stress relief.
You don’t necessarily have a great marriage (or you’re married at all), a strong family, a solid friend, or a church where you feel you’re at home. But the truth is, God blessed us all in a unique and concrete way. And while you wait for it to change, while waiting for that answer to your prayer, God wants your eyes to be open as much as you have already given you. The Lord blesses us all differently, but he certainly blesses us all. It’s definitely not over.
And even if your visible world does not meet your expectations or appears to be incredibly fewer than those around you, our great God will give each of us a rich gift. He offers an explosion of treasure and blessings for our vision and soul through his creation. He extends more mercy and grace than we know or deserve. He mercilessly releases more peace and joy in his presence than we perceive. And he offers a gorgeous love that is unparalleled. All of this and more. More than we can feel or see.
But we believe that as we look more and more at the gifts and blessings he has given us, we will be more patient and willing to do better. Within this focus, we recall God has worked for our good many times, so we can reassure him that God is still working for us, and gain the confidence that He will continue to bless us again and again. While we wait today, praise the good Lord for the immeasurable number of people He has given us. Now, while you wait, you pray that you will find encouragement in his present abundant love, his generous goodness, and his eternal faithfulness.
Let’s pray:
Lord God, you offer many blessings. More than I can count or see. Sometimes, while I wait for the changes and answers of prayer I desperately feel, I feel discouraged and disappointed as my focus floats over something I don’t have. But help me open my eyes to everything you have already given and everything you already have to offer. I want to look at your inexplicable, merciless mercy, grace, peace, compassion and care. Help me to be encouraged today to not stop your good gifts and not stop blessing my life. Lord, your generosity is greater than I can measure, and I am very grateful. Your son’s perfect name, Amen.
