Prayer when you feel like you are always at odds
Amanda Idolman

Bible Reading:
“And the peace of God, which exceeds all understanding, protects the heart and heart of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7

Listen or read:

Conflict steals our peace. When tension is thick in the air, it is impossible to feel secure in your environment. Finding the content requires resolution, reconciliation, justice, and redemption. There are a few things that you don’t have the power to change. You can’t change your behavior to someone you love. You cannot undo a certain broken system yourself. We cannot forgive our children, and the list continues. We live in a broken world. That is, some tension never dissipates.

Other seasons seem to be filled with bitter inconsistencies. My husband and I have gone through very harsh years and many years in which most of our interactions have led to feelings of anger, confusion, disappointment and hurt. Pain, sadness, shame, and helplessness have almost destroyed us, when it comes to our relationships. God’s promise that he is a great healer has given us the hope we need to continue to return to each other, despite our overwhelmed needs.

We can all face moments when conflict appears to be consuming us, but the good news is that when we are stuck in a broken place, we have a helper, the Holy Spirit, and we can call him (John 14:26)! He is a strong advocate that provides comfort in all situations. We may not be able to change our situation, but he can. He can give us new eyes that will help us find peace. Wisdom that helps us to determine what healthy boundaries we need to set to protect our minds, and he can help bring the broken things back to life!

After several years of struggling in our marriage, the only change that led to healing was the hopeless cry of surrender to the Holy Spirit. We needed his eyes, his wisdom, his healing powers, and his wisdom, his healing powers, to help us find freedom from the broken cycles that are destroying our family. What’s surprising is that he was faithful to answering our prayers. None of the required changes occurred overnight. It included the help of amazing counselors, deep efforts to change our habits and see each other differently, and supernatural forgiveness to restore love for each other. We had to partner with God’s process to find healing. And through that sacred partnership, we experienced a miracle.

This is what we need when we’re stuck… miracle! Go to the Lord again and find the power to seek His will for your life. Let him do what only he can do. By His grace we will be freed (Galatians 5:1). May he have peace transcend your home, your work, your future, your relationships, and your ability to understand your life. He will do in abundance beyond everything you can ask, think, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Let’s pray:

Father, we are hopeless and hopeless, and we will come to you alone. We need your wisdom to find a way back to your peace in situations that look like an endless well of conflict. Show us your way, show us your way, and guide your truth. Thank you that you are God who knows our hearts. You are God who values justice and truth. You are also full of patience and grace. May your mind intervene on my behalf as you search our minds. What’s hidden will be revealed. Bring repentance to humility and service when necessary. May your wisdom tell me what healthy boundaries look like in this situation. Will your soothing touch soften and change my mind? Take a step back and give you the power to trust you, especially when you can’t control the outcome of this situation. Jesus, do what only you can! I love you. Amen.
