On Saturday, March 22nd, the ground broke due to the country’s third home, the Birmingham England Temple. This was the groundbreaking groundbreaking of the first temple in the continent of Lisbon Portuguese Temple in 2015.

Elder Scott D. Whiting, 70 Directorate-General and president of the Northern Europe region, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony, dedicated his site and construction process.

Information about the invitation-only event airing throughout the temple district was published on Monday, March 24th in a news release on churchfjesuschrist.org from the church’s UK newsroom.

“Today marks a fun opportunity as we break through the ground at Birmingham England Temple,” Elder Whiting said. “This holy house will stand as a beacon of faith, peace and devotion in Jesus Christ for future generations. We pray that we will bless not only those who enter that door, but also the surrounding community as a symbol of love, service and unity.”

“The temple will stand as evidence of the value of faith, tolerance and service, the cornerstone of a prosperous community rooted in service to the elderly and its elderly,” said Councilman Alex Yip, a Birmingham City Councilman for the Sutton Wild Green area.

He continued. “The construction of the Birmingham England Temple is a wonderful and exciting addition to the Sutton Coldfield community, a royal cold field community known for its welcoming spirit and rich diversity. The new temple reflects the inclusive nature of a community where people of all backgrounds and faith can live side by side and worship their work.”

James Dogget, a young man from Bristol England stock, said at the groundbreaking ceremony: “It was a great opportunity to be part of this wonderful day and I realized how quickly the Lord is working so quickly.

About the Temples in Birmingham

President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple on April 3, 2022, in Birmingham, England. It was one of the 17 temples presented at the conference.

Planned as a single-storey building of approximately 10,800 square feet, the building is being built on a 2.7-acre site at 185-187 Penn Lane in Sutton Coldfield, a civil parish in Birmingham.

This Lord’s House was announced by President Nelson in April 2024 by London England Temple, dedicated to 1958 and London England Temple, dedicated to 1998.

In England, there were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, shortly after the church was organized in 1830, and first preached in Preston, England in 1837. By 1870, British immigrants accounted for about half of Utah’s population.

Today, more than 180,000 church members live in more than 300 congregations.
