A Texas couple whose marriage was once on the brink of complete collapse are now helping other struggling spouses find faith and hope through Jesus and sustain their marriages.

Greg and Julie Alexander, founders of Alexander House, a marriage coaching and resource organization, said their ministry was born out of their own marital crisis nearly 30 years ago.

After infidelity, serious conflicts, and a mutual decision to move toward divorce, the couple told CBN News how God intervened and fundamentally changed the course of their lives. Greg explained that after they considered separating, they found themselves challenged by a religious leader who helped them see their situation in a different light.

Greg began researching what the Bible says about God’s plan for marriage. And he was shocked. He realized that his marriage bore no resemblance to the Biblical blueprint. In fact, the couple quickly realized how far off the mark they had been.

So Greg and Julie sit and reflect, realizing that not all hope is lost. Rather than divorce, they decided to reconcile and do things according to God’s will.

“I took Julie’s hand and said a simple prayer,” he said. “I said, ‘Heavenly Father, we’ve tried to live our lives and marriages based on what we think we should do, and it doesn’t work. We’ve tried to live according to the ways of the world, and it doesn’t work. And we sincerely invite You into our lives to show us how we want to live. And if You will deliver us from this evil, we would like to dedicate the rest of our lives to some kind of marriage or family service.'”

Julie said the healing process wasn’t easy, especially after the pain of the affair, but her faith gave her hope. And that prayer gave me a simple yet profound new beginning.

“Thank God, we were both willing to say, ‘Okay…we don’t want to get divorced. We don’t want to leave each other. We just want to figure out how to make it work,'” she said.

Not only did they make it, they launched a ministry aimed at inspiring other couples to stand strong.

Today, they both lead Alexander House, a service organization that helps couples in trouble heal. Through a program called Marriage Disciples, they pair hurting couples with trained mentors who walk them through a process rooted in Biblical principles.

“It can save any marriage,” Julie said. “We truly believe, but it has to be from the perspective of inviting Jesus in, inviting God in, and helping us understand what God’s plan is.”

Greg said many couples are looking for answers, but examples of healthy, faith-centered marriages are often missing.

“The problem is that many of us are now growing up in families with no reference point for what a godly marriage looks like,” he says.

The Alexanders are preparing for a “first come, first serve” wedding celebration to be held on June 26th in Dallas, Texas. The event is designed to raise awareness, recruit more marriage leaders, and support the growth of the ministry. Actor David Henley and “America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator will be in attendance.

“We want to use this celebration as an opportunity to testify to the power and majesty of God and what He can do in marriage,” Greg said.
