Church pastor Nancy Guthrie led the congregation in praying for the safe return of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, who has been missing for 10 days.
“Lord God, we are here in the valley of the shadow,” Pastor John Title began, quoting Psalm 23. “And, Lord, we turn to You in our time of need and cry out for mercy. God, we pray that light would shine out of the darkness. And we pray, we pray for Nancy’s deliverance, we pray for deliverance, we pray for her to be brought safely home.”

“Jesus, you said to us, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” So, God, we ask you to deliver us from evil. Lord, as we gather as your people, we turn to you in prayer and ask you to protect Nancy, body, mind, and soul at this moment. And her family, send your angels to surround her and serve her and her family in this moment. ”
Tittle went on to ask God that Nancy Guthrie would “feel deep within her soul our prayers and love for her” and that “a peace that passes all comprehension will guard the hearts and minds of Nancy and her family,” quoting Philippians 4:7.
Title offered a prayer during Sunday services at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona, where Nancy Guthrie has been a member for about 30 years.
The pastor petitioned God for wisdom for local and national law enforcement agencies searching for Nancy Guthrie, who was ostensibly abducted sometime between 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, and the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 1.
Nancy Guthrie, who was in her 80s, was discovered missing when she did not hear from her, who was scheduled to attend a livestream gathering at Savannah Guthrie Church in New York City and Good Shepherd New York.
“Lord, please soften the hearts of those responsible so that they can come forward and do what is humane and right,” Title prayed. “We pray for mercy and grace and victory, and we pray all this in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, our crucified and risen Lord. Amen, amen.”
Tittle’s Sunday prayer came just before the ransom deadline expired. According to NBC News, neither the FBI nor the Pima County Sheriff’s Office has publicly verified the authenticity of the memo, which was sent to three different news organizations and demanded $6 million in Bitcoin.
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie posted a video of herself being abused on her Instagram account, thanking everyone who has prayed for her mother and family.
“We believe our mother is still there,” she said. “We need your help. Law enforcement is working around the clock to bring her home and find her. She was taken and we don’t know where she was. And we need your help. So I ask for your prayers. I’m just here to ask, but no matter where you are – even if you’re far from Tucson – if you see something, hear anything, or see anything strange, please call law enforcement.”And we need your help.” ”
Savannah Guthrie’s pastor appeared on NBC’s “Today” Tuesday morning and described the famed anchor’s mother as a “strong woman” who “loved fiercely.”
“Prayer expands the potential of our own hearts,” said Good Shepherd Pastor Michael Luzena. “Keeping the door open to hope is the way to combat that deadly situation.”
