Veteran Filipino singer and actress and Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Ku Ledesma visited several typhoon-hit communities in Cebu to deliver relief supplies and messages of emotional comfort to residents struggling to recover from the recent storm. Her relief efforts come as Cebuanos continue to grapple with flooding, property damage and displacement after Typhoon Tino (international name Karmaegi), and in the wake of warnings about the approach of Typhoon Uwan.

Ledesma, who is internationally known for her decades-long music career, visited hard-hit areas such as Ilaya and Taytay in Danao, Umapad and Kotkot in Liloan, as well as several schools including Magkat National High School, Don Bosco and Jubey Comprehensive School. During each visit, he coordinated with local church pastors and barangay officials to ensure aid reached the most affected people.

“This is my ministry. I go to really different places to share the word of God and more importantly (the message of) salvation, Kaligtasan,” Ledesma said in a virtual chat. She added that she also participates in prison outreach activities, reflecting a long-standing commitment to supporting marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Each visit included short talks and distribution of relief supplies. Ledesma read Bible verses such as “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and “You have been saved by grace, through faith…and not by works,” emphasizing hope, faith and healing for residents who have lost their homes and livelihoods. She said many in attendance listened intently, and some were moved to tears as they felt both tangible support and spiritual encouragement.

Reflecting on his calling, Ledesma recalled that soon after he became a Christian, he was asked, “So, what is your ministry?” Although unsure at first, she later realized that her mission was to “share the gift of salvation, the love of Christ,” and this became the guiding principle that shaped her humanitarian work and musical career.

Although Ledesma is best known for his music, he is increasingly using his public platform to combine entertainment with ministry and community work. She said the typhoon relief efforts are part of a broader advocacy to support communities in crisis and bring hope to those who feel vulnerable and overlooked.

Ledesma said he hopes to return to Cebu within about two weeks and may expand his relief efforts to nearby areas such as Bacolod. She encouraged communities to rely on both faith and solidarity, noting that spiritual strength and mutual support can help rebuild lives after disasters.

For many Cebuanos still recovering from the storm, Ledesma’s visit brought more than relief. It brought compassion, faith, and hope, unity, and reassurance that despite the devastation, communities can help overcome adversity. Her visit highlights the role of artists and celebrities who provide not only entertainment but also humanitarian and spiritual support during times of crisis.
