Each year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites you to share the light of Jesus Christ with others and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas time.
On Sunday, Nov. 30, the church released the 2025 Light the World video titled “The Story of the First Christmas Told by Children.”
This video features the story of the first Christmas, excerpted from Luke 2, performed by children from around the world.
The video is interspersed with scenes from the 2019 video “The Christ Child” presented by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, illustrating how this sacred story continues to resonate today.
“Every time we share the story of Christ, we can feel the light of Christ shining,” the text at the end of the video proclaims.
The video can be viewed in multiple languages on the church’s social media and YouTube channels, as well as at LightTheWorld.org. The website will also feature versions of videos created in the Philippines, Africa, South America, and more, reflecting different languages, cultures, and traditions.
2025 Light the World Initiative
For 2025, the Light the World Initiative is calling on everyone to add the light of Jesus Christ to their Christmas traditions.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, “The Light of the World initiative is rooted in the Biblical teachings of Jesus Christ, who declared, ‘I am the light of the world’ (John 8:12). His light was never meant to be admired from afar. It was meant to be shared. When we give, whether it’s a machine, a donation, or just an act of kindness, we become the light of God.”
As people look to add more light to their Christmas traditions, they may find inspiration in a series of short videos published on church social media channels and posted on LightTheWorld.org during the season.
The website also includes an interactive idea generator and a list of downloadable ideas to “add light to your Christmas traditions.”
Traditions like baking cookies, cooking a meal, listening to music, planning a party, going shopping, and hanging lights can add light by inviting, sharing, delivering, and serving.
The Shine a Light on the World initiative allows you to spread kindness and compassion for those in need, whether by donating through a Giving Machine kiosk or finding a service project on JustServe.org.
Other ways to celebrate Jesus Christ this season include downloading Christmas music, reading Christmas stories, bringing the Nativity story to life, and worshiping with others during Christmas sacrament services.
Other resources available for download at LightTheWorld.org include:
Customizable local Light the World invitations for churches, service projects, Christmas parties, giving machines, and more. A printable digital pass-along card with an invitation to light up the world. Christmas wallpapers for smartphones and desktops. And a Christmas video.
