November 11th will forever be an important day in our beloved country as we honor our veterans and military. As the daughter and granddaughter of two brave veterans, one in the Air Force and one in the Army, the holiday that honors their service and sacrifice creates a precious time to pause, reflect, and pray with gratitude.

First, it is essential to understand why We celebrate Veterans Day. According to wounded warrior project“Veterans Day was originally known as: armistice day Armistice signed by the Germans, or call for peace November 11, 1918the fighting between Allied forces and Germany ended at “the 11th hour.” President Woodrow Wilson established Armistice Day a year later to honor those who served in World War I and celebrate the peace that followed. ”

While there are many ways to celebrate and support the dedication of our military, the primary purpose of Veterans Day is to honor living veterans who served in wars and protect them in peace. So let us join hands and find meaningful ways to lift our hearts in prayer and serve those who have so bravely served our country.

prayer for veterans

prayer of blessing

Father God, we thank you for the brave men and women who stood up for life, liberty, and freedom. Their selfless sacrifices often go unrewarded and unseen, but today we humbly ask God to bestow upon them a sweet reminder that their service is not only noticed, but deeply valued and respected. Lord, help us to stand between images of war and loss, filled with tender love and hope, as we share our gratitude for those who have sacrificed everything for the country we love. Amen.

prayers of hope and healing

Lord, we lift up all those who have bravely served their country and are still hurting. Perhaps they are physical, or perhaps they are more internal, but we ask that you cover and protect them with your healing hand as they strive to move forward in life. Grant them peace that passes all understanding, restore them to places that many do not see, and give their hearts hope to cling to your mercy, your grace, and your abundant mercy. Amen.

Prayers for protection and provision

Oh Jesus, we come before You now and ask You to protect, guide, and provide for all veterans who are accepting the truth and power of Your precious promises. A promise that declares that you will never leave them or forsake them, that you will guide all things for good, that you will give strength to the weak, comfort to the hurt, and rest to weary souls. Remind them that you are their protection, rock, and shield, providing a safe place when they need to face days filled with sadness and sadness. We ask this in Your holy name. Amen.

prayer for peace

Merciful God, you are our reliable source of peace. As we honor our troops and veterans today, we ask you to protect them with peace and comfort. Give them the courage to turn to you when anxious thoughts flood in and stress robs them of the peace you have so graciously given them. As the community gathers to honor those who have contributed, please guide us so that we receive them with honor, dignity, respect, love, and peace. We are deeply grateful for their service and your precious peace. You can win back their hearts. Amen.

Scriptures to be memorized by veterans and the nation at large.

Blessed are those who do not keep in step with the wicked, nor prevent sinners from aligning themselves with and being present with scoffers. But he delights in the law of the Lord, and meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted by a stream of water, which yields its fruit in its season, whose leaf never withers, and which prospers in all that he does. Psalm 1:1-3

Greater love than this is to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in which I take refuge, and is my shield (be) and horn (b) is my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge, and my savior. You save me from violent people. “I called on the praiseworthy Lord, and I was delivered from my enemies. 2 Samuel 22:2-4.”

And God will bless you abundantly, so that you will have everything you need at all times and in all things, and you will be able to do every good work abundantly. 2 Corinthians 9:8

Meaningful ways to serve

cards and thank you notes

Writing letters to veterans means a lot and not only celebrates them, but also celebrates your own heart. There are many benefits to attending these events, including hearing personal stories from veterans and hearing their powerful stories. Bring your family and let them learn about the freedoms in this country won by our brave men and women.
