Prayer to honor grandparents
By Lynette Kittle

Bible Reading:
“Children are the crown of the elderly, and parents are the pride of their children” – Proverbs 17:6

Listen or read:

Grandparents evoke a rush of happy memories for many individuals who spent time with their grandparents who grew up, loved, cared for and shared their wisdom.

They provide lifelong experience and wisdom to the next generation as God gave grandparents a place of honor to their family, and they are cherished and respected by their families.

Similarly, grandchildren benefit from the love, care, affection and attention they receive from spending time with their grandparents.

Similarly, most grandparents enjoy the time God gives them with their grandchildren, the true blessings and gifts from him.

But sadly, some grandparents are excluded from their grandchildren’s lives for a variety of reasons, whether it’s distance, family fallout or disagreement. However, this type of family fracture breaks the heart of God who creates and treasures the family lineage he designed.

Look at the Bible and see how the family line is not lost to God, and how he doesn’t discount those who come before us. Genesis 50:22-23 explains, “They explain how Joseph stayed in Egypt with his whole father’s family. He lived for 100 years and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children.

Grandparents play an important role in the family. As the apostle Paul mentions honor in 2 Timothy 1:5, “I recall your sincere faith. I first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded, and I still live in you.”

So for grandparents who feel left out on Grandparents’ Day, these are three ways to help you through missing out on your grandchildren:

1. Praise his faithfulness in your life and your grandchildren and their parents’ lives. Whether your family does not remember to include you or turn your back on you, Psal sal 119:90 assures us, God remembers. “Your loyalty continues through every generation. You establish the earth, and it endures.”

He is a faithful father, so you can be comforted to know that God remembers you, caring and caring about you.

2. Pray for your grandchildren and their parents, and ask God to soften his heart towards him and you. Also, ask to bring reconciliation and restoration to your relationship with your grandchildren.

For many grandparents, communication and contact are lost or blocked between them and their grandchildren. Instead of feeling despair about the situation, feeling your hands are tied up, allowing grandparents to pray effective and powerful prayers on behalf of their family.

As James 5:16 assures us, “Therefore we will confess your sins to one another, and we pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”

3. Congratulate your grandchildren and their parents. Bitterness and resplendent are too easy to fill your mind and heart during a split family situation with children and grandchildren.

But rather than these destructive feelings make you consume, follow what Jesus urges in Luke 6:28, “Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who abuse you.”

Let’s pray:

Dear Father,
For all the grandparents who are grieving and suffering today, their grandchildren will miss their grandchildren in their lives, cover them with your peace and comfort, let them know that you love them and see their sorrows.
Let your grandparents know that it is your will for them to be cherished and given their family a place of honor.
With your healing balm, heal the deep wounds of rejection in today’s mind. Encourage them to be loved and cherished by you, regardless of how your family is currently treating them.

Allow each injured grandparent to cause pain in their lives by intentionally or unwittingly ignoring, abandoning, abandoning, or underestimating their children and grandchildren.
It strengthens grandparents and forgive families, and guides them to turn their grief into prayer and blessings for their children and grandchildren.
The hearts of grandparents will soften towards you, their children and grandchildren, and let you praise you every day as your faithfulness to their lives and Heavenly Father.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen
