Today, August 1 marks the beginning of a new service for 20 general authorities and general officers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as the beginning of a new administrative district, renaming several other regions and changing to regional presidents around the world.

The New Leader Calls – Seventy, 16 new presidents, members of the ’70s, new young male general presidential president’s presidency – was announced and maintained on April 5th in the Saturday morning opening game of the General Meeting in April 2025 four months ago.

Also, the status of honor was announced for five general authorities in the 1950s, and the then young male general was released.

Most of these actions were announced to be effective on August 1st.

The same August 1 date was assigned to the church’s new Canadian region launch, name changes to several regions in North America, and the challenges of the current 24 regional presidents serving around the world. The Canadian region was first announced in December 2024, but shortly after the general meeting in April 2025, the region name and regional president allocation were announced four months ago.

Elder Kevin R. Duncan, 70 directors, who served as executive directors in the church’s temple division, is a new member of the Seventy presidency. Elder Jose A. Teisheira, who is also a general authorities of 70, has been released from the presidency and will begin serving as president of the US Central Region.

New and Honorary Bureau 70’s

The 16 new general authorities include nine people born outside the US in Argentina, Botswana, Brazil (2), Canada, Germany, Jamaica, Taiwan and Venezuela.

The 16-year-olds are Elder John D. Amos, Elder Ronald M. Barcelos, Elder Stephen C. Barlow, Elder Kevin G. Brown, Elder B. Corey Queberier, Elder Michael Evanson, Elder James E. Evanson, Elder Brick V. Ire, Elder Ozani Farias, Elder Aaron T. Hall, Eduardo F. Ortega, Elder Edward B. Low, and Elder Wang Lian Wu.

The 50s, given the 70s of the 1st of August, were Elder David S. Baxter, Elder Randall K. Bennett, Elder Kevin S. Hamilton, Elder Raphael E. Pino, and Elder George F. Zeboros.

A resignation young male general – President Stephen J. Rand and his counselors, Brothers Bradley R. Wilcox and brother Michael T. Nelson, were serving five years in the presidency and serving together for two years. The latter two were convened as president and counselors at the general meeting in April 2020, and the Nelson brothers replaced Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt, who was called as counselors in 2023 and called the General Authority Seventy.

Information about new leaders

A brief biographical information about the new president of the 70s and members of the new Young Men’s General President was first released in April. The longer separate profiles of each new leader and his wife are continuing to be published weekly with church news online and in print.

New Canada Region

On December 6, 2024, it was announced that the first president would be effective on August 1, 2025. This creation was to provide better leadership and support to all church leaders and troops in Canada.

The new area comes from three existing regional divisions known as the Central North America, Northeast North America and Western North America Region. Calgary, Alberta serves as the headquarters of the Canadian Regional Presidency and Regional Office.

Renames of five US areas

Five regions of the church covering the United States have been renamed, and the region’s names do not begin with “North America.” The five renamed regions are the US Central, US Northeastern, US Southeastern, US Southwest and US West.

The Utah area continues to be known as that. All six US areas are managed from the Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City.

New Regional Presidency Allocation

On April 14, the first president announced the allocation of regional leadership for 2025-26. New missions were announced on August 1st for the 24th area.

Most members of the regional president are the directorate of the 70s, with some regional 70s. Among the 24 Area Presidents and 48 counselors, there were four regions in the 1970s and 1940s.
