The New York man faces federal accusations after he allegedly constructed and planted numerous improvised explosive devices across Manhattan, including those thrown onto active subway tracks.

Michael Gunn, 55, of Inwood, New York, was charged Tuesday with multiple federal crimes, including attempts to destroy property using explosives, according to the Department of Justice’s release from the US Lawyer’s Office in the Southern District of New York.

Federal prosecutors say Gann made at least seven homemade bombs using chemicals ordered online, hiding five of them on roofs around Manhattan’s Soho area.

According to the Department of Justice, one of the devices was thrown into a subway truck at the Williamsburg Bridge.

Gunn was arrested in Soho on June 5th, and authorities determined he was in possession of another explosive device.

“The defendant is allegedly stockpiled homemade explosives and traveled to New York City with these deadly devices,” NYPD commissioner Jessica Tish said in a DOJ news release.

“He threw one of these devices onto the active subway tracks and stored the other devices on the rooftops of residential buildings, but due to the skilled investigative work and prompt response from the NYPD and our partners, he was able to intervene before he could do anything harm,” Tisch added.

She said, “We are grateful to our members of the NYPD, FBI and the U.S. Lawyer’s Office for all the work they do every day to keep New Yorkers safe.”

US lawyer Jay Clayton called the plot a serious threat.

“As doubtful, Michael Gunn built an explosive device, kept it on a rooftop in Soho, and threw one into a subway truck.

FBI assistant director Christopher G. Leia said that cancer was “quickly brought to trial before injuring an innocent civilian.”

According to the complaint, Gann bought 2 pounds of potassium perchlorate and 1 pound of aluminum powder, and purchased cardboard tubes and foods.

He mixed the substance and contained 30 grams of explosive powder, 600 times the legal limit of fireworks, with just one device.

Guns also stored four shotgun shells on the rooftop and searched online for “Clawlin Bomb,” “1/2 Stick Dynamite,” and “Rechargeable Nail Gun Steal.”

He also allegedly Googled “Do you want to pass the background check?”

Just before his arrest, he wrote on Instagram, “Who wants to go out and play like tomorrow?”

Cancer faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of all charges.

The case is being charged by the US Lawyer’s Office for the National Security and International Drugs Division of the Southern District of New York.
