BWA General Secretary Elijah Brown shares the moves of Act 2 at the opening celebration of the 23rd Baptist World Conference. BWA

As the Global Church aims to create the 2000th anniversary of Pentecost and the birth of the Church of Christ in 2033, the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) has launched a massive initiative seeking unprecedented collaboration among Baptists around the world, calling for unprecedented collaboration.

The announcement came during the opening celebration of the 23rd Baptist World Conference held in Brisbane from July 7-13, 2025. There, BWA General Secretary and CEO Elijah Brown challenged 3,000 participants from 130 countries to pray for a “global revival of all languages, neighbours, nations and nations.”

“Two thousand years ago, disciples gathered in the upper chambers, and for the first time the Holy Spirit filled men and women forever. They changed the world as a church in action,” Brown said. “If for the glory of God we would say, “Lord, what did you do two thousand years ago, will you do it again?”

The Acts Two Movement focuses on five “passes” modeled after the early churches listed in Chapter 2, The Biblical Path, The Way of Witness, The Way of Care, The Way of Neighbors, The Way of Religion Freedom. These correspond to the BWA’s five core ministry areas and aim to mobilize Baptists from 138 countries towards specific goals by 2033, including 450 million shared testimonies, 1,159 Bible translations, 1 billion services, 500,000 neighbourhood pastors, and 1 million signatures of global cooperation in religious freedom.

“The global Christian community is united around the vision of 2033 to help complete the great committee,” said Kyle Henderson, director of the Act 2 movement. “Through the Act 2 movement, Baptists are moving forward to fulfilling their sacred responsibility in this sacred mission.”

Through the council, hundreds of participants responded to prayer calls and committed to bringing the Act 2 Vision back to their local churches and communities.

One important factor, the path of freedom and justice, is committed to the defense of religious freedom and human rights, where BWA works closely with advocacy partners like 21Wilberforce. The initiative aims to mobilize one million Baptists as people who pray, speak and act on behalf of those facing religious persecution around the world.

“Religious freedom is more than political concern, it is the calling of the gospel,” reads the statement of the Path of Freedom and Justice. The global contract on freedom of religion and conscience calls for protecting the dignity of all, protecting the freedom of all people’s beliefs, encouraging equal citizenship and legal protection, and facing religious persecution wherever it occurs.

“We are calling on Baptists to congratulate their neighbors and encourage friendship between all of their neighbors,” Brown said. “Would you take part in a global movement to use the freedom that Christ has given you?”

Founded in 1905, BWA represents 53 million baptized followers in 178,000 churches around the world. For over a century, the Alliance has worked throughout the Baptist to strengthen worship, mission, aid, justice and theological leadership.
