Spanish religious rights groups are calling on the President of the European Commission to establish a special coordinator to combat hate crimes against Christians.

The Spanish Observatory of Religious Freedom (July 9) (July 9) urged the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to create a position equivalent to existing experts, equivalent to the European Union.

“It is essential that the European Commission is a law with the same commitment that it presents in the fight against other forms of religious hatred,” OLRC President Maria Garcia said at a press conference.

The anti-Christian attacks have been recorded as the Observatory on intolerance and discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe) recorded 2,444 hate crimes against Christians in 35 European countries, which means that “intolerance and discrimination against Christians in Europe will be in 2024.”

The report includes 232 personal attacks, including “harassment, threats, and physical violence.”

Arguing that anti-Christian hostility is growing, the OLRC cited the recent “serious attacks” on religious freedom for both French and German Christians.

“In recent weeks, there have been some surprising episodes, including the explosion of “Araf Akbar,” screaming at the altar of the sacred heart of Paris (a jihadist slogan) – arson attack on Bavarian churches, Rodgau’s attack on Sacristan, and as a weapon.

Olrc highlighted the murders of Rayristan and two Diego Valencia Contreras on January 25, 2023. He was hacked by the terrorist Jasinkanza outside the parish of San Isidro in Arguesilas, Spain.

Another murder quoted was the death of a 76-year-old monk in Valencia on November 9th last year. The man who claims to be Jesus Christ entered the monastery of Santo Espiritu del Monte in Gillette north of the city, and attacked the monks, leaving several other people injured.

The OLRC’s final report in 2023 recorded 36 attacks on Spanish worship and Christian symbols. He is a person who is increasing every year.

“The European Union cannot see the other way around in the face of these murders and attacks on the church,” Garcia said.

It is essential that the Commission recognizes the severity of these facts and acts with the same commitment that it presents in its fight against other forms of religious hatred, she said.

“European coexistence and religious freedom are threatened,” Garcia said. “We therefore call for the urgent creation of European Union special coordinators to combat Christian phobia in order to coordinate and implement effective policies to curb these attacks.”

The OLRC urged European citizens to “sign a petition on its website to require that European institutions protect all citizens, particularly the fundamental rights of religious freedom, in a truly effective manner.”
