Dr. Pamela Pyle was not a follower when she began her medical career, but a series of supernatural events changed that reality.
Pyle, author of “Expected Heaven: Spiritual Comfort and Practical Wisdom in the Last Chapter of Life,” told CBN News, who began practicing medicine in 1989 at a time when she and her husband had no personal relationship with God.

“I started practicing medicine… I saw so many things, acute cases, tragedy, accidents, etc. “As a doctor, that was particularly disappointing as a young doctor. I had really tragic cases early on.”
However, when Pyle arrived at her in her mid-thirties, something happened that changed the dynamics of her faith: her husband accepted Jesus after the experience of death (NDE).
“I was in the ambulance at the time,” she recalled the horrifying ordeal. “He was unconscious and I didn’t think he would survive. But Jesus saved him both physically and mentally.”
Pyle says her husband experienced “cold darkness” and nasty NDE, and after he survived, he thought about life completely differently:
“I think Jesus gave him a taste of death,” she said. This experience ultimately became part of the couple’s testimony.
However, Pyle said she was not embracing the experience first and the changes in life that followed.
“When he recovered enough to relate this experience to me, he was this transformational person and I wasn’t very happy,” she said. “I was… he was sure there was some kind of neurological event due to the low blood flow.”
But even the neurological tests have all returned to normal. Over time, her husband’s relationship with Jesus grew, and Pyle remained confused by it.
“He was reading the Bible and I was hiding from me at the time, so I was hiding from me at the time,” she said. “He prayed for me… for two years we have done miracles in our lives in the meantime.”
Pyle’s husband traveled and continued praying, but then another incident shocked the couple. Their son, born blind, experienced an incredible miracle: the return of his sight.
The healing began with what she described as “an incredible experience at the church.” There, people came to pray for their son and their family. She believes that prayer has had an impact.
“He had a varnish muss. It was about wandering around because there was nothing to focus on, and we thought he was really careful when he saw everything,” Pyle said. “It was a really difficult experience for our best friend, who our pediatrician had to tell us he was blind.”
After the aforementioned church service, Pyle’s husband had changed his son’s diaper. At the time he wore stripes and a tie. He threw his tie over his shoulder, and his baby son suddenly saw it and focused – shocked him.
The baby was focused in his eyes.
“That was unrealistic,” Pyle said. “And as a non-believers, I didn’t think of it until (i) looking back and thinking, ‘Well, that must have been a miracle.’ ”
She continued, “Doctors, they had no explanation for it.”
Ultimately, Pyle accepted Christ and now openly shares her faith, and these events helped her. She believes she has seen other miracles too.
Her book, “Expected Heaven: Spiritual Comfort and Practical Wisdom for the Last Chapter of Life,” explores preparations for eternity and end of life.
Knowing well that not everyone is receiving healing, Pyle said she has seen suffering for years, but knows God’s goodness.
“My theology is: God is good, and I trust him,” she said. “It’s just been a long time… I have to see myself living through suffering and suffering, but then I always love God and trust him with the consequences.”
Watch her discuss these issues and more.
