“Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition” will be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library until September 2nd. Dead Sea Scroll Screenshot: Exhibition

Eight newly installed scrolls of death, including rare manuscripts outlining the beliefs and structure of the ancient Qumrans factions, are on display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. The scroll is part of the ongoing “Dead Sea Scroll: Exhibition” hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI), marking a final rotation before the exhibition closes on September 2nd.

The newly installed scroll includes the Community Rules Scroll 4q260, also known as the Manual of Discipline, detailing the management structure, daily practices and core values of the 1st century BC Qumran community. They replace the previous set of eight scrolls as part of the normal rotation to store ancient manuscripts that are highly sensitive to light and environmental exposure.

Other highlights of this exhibition include the Sea of Galilee, the Magdalene Stone, and at least 400 artifacts. Previous scrolls on display include the 4Q57 Isaiah scroll and the TEN Commentary Scroll.

“The Community Rule Scroll 4q260, also known as the Manual of Discipline, contains rules governing the lives and beliefs of denominations believed to have lived in Qumran around the first century BC,” the RRPFI statement said.

“It is a fundamental document that outlines the governing structure, values and daily practices of this community, providing scholars and the public with an unusual window into the communal life and religious ideals of one of the ancient Jewish communities.”

Melissa Giller, chief marketing officer for the Presidential Foundation and Institute of Technology, told the Christian Daily International that hosting a Dead Sea scroll at the Reagan Library is a “risqué honor.”

“These ancient texts provide invaluable insight into the origins of Judaism, Christianity and Islam,” Giller said. “President Reagan believes in the enduring importance of faith, history and cultural understanding, and is proud to be able to share these sacred treasures with the public during this landmark 75th anniversary.

“The nation wants to connect with the ancient roots of modern civilization and religion. We are proud to make that connection possible, especially as the Reagan Library is the only West Coast location where you can see these scrolls.”

“Dead Sea Scroll: Exhibition” has announced the return of scrolls for public display in the US for nearly a decade. It celebrates the 75th anniversary of the scroll being discovered and is called “one of the most important archaeological discoveries in modern history.”

The exhibition features ancient manuscripts from the collection of Israeli Ancient Bureau and created a show from a collection of national treasures. The exhibition is produced by West Wall Exhibitions and RRPFI.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is “the only non-profit organization created by President Reagan, accused of accusing his legacy and principles: personal freedom, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride.”
