While serving in Indonesia, Relief Society President Kamille N. Johnson met with government and religious leaders, spoke with women during district meetings and visited families.

Indonesia is one of the four Asian countries where President Johnson serves in May and June, Churchofjesuschrist.org reported. President Johnson was accompanied by her husband, brother Doug Johnson, as well as 70 presidents of the church’s Asian presidency, as well as second counselors and wife Grace Tae.

The Church of Jesus Christ, a global initiative of Latter-day Saints to Support Women and Children, was one of the discussions with Angia Hermarini of the Indonesian House of Representatives on May 26th.

“The Church of Jesus Christ for Latter-day Saints has embarked on a global initiative to improve the well-being of women and children,” President Johnson said. “It includes mothers and newborn care, education and vaccination, and we are really working on nutrition, which is an important focus for us in Indonesia.

Elmarini said: “In my faith, mothers are the first educators of the family,” she added, “it’s important that we work with women for these children.”

President Johnson also met with H. nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Istiklal Mosque in Jakarta on May 23, and Adhy Karyono, the state secretary of East Java, on May 27.

On May 27, 2025, Relief Society President Kamille N. Johnson, second from the left, and her husband, brother Doug Johnson, visited Adie Cariono, third from the left, Secretary of East Java. She was joined by Elder Michael John U. Tae, a general directorate for the Asian presidency, and his wife, Grace Tae. |Latter-day Saints’ Church of Jesus Christ

Together with Dr. Umar, she discussed what faiths, including love, had in common.

“We know that love is at the heart of what we’re trying to do,” President Johnson said. “I talked to him a bit about sharing the same feelings as our motivations, our love for God, our love for our neighbors.

Women’s meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia

President Johnson spoke at the first women’s conference held in Jakarta on May 24th. This was one of three held across Indonesia and reported a news release on Churchofjesuschrist.org. The meeting included a service project that put together sanitary kits and delivered kits and food to nearby locations for fire and flood victims.

When President Johnson spoke to a woman in an afternoon prayer broadcast across the country, she said to them: “You are a beautiful example of a disciple of Jesus Christ.”

President Johnson highlighted the influence of women and the possibilities of God, and reminded him of the teachings of Church President Russell M. Nelson at the Relief Society in 2024.

She repeated President Nelson’s invitation to a woman to make the Bible a “personal Liahona” for guidance, referring to the Compass Lee family used in the Book of Mormon. The temple will be used as a “place for evacuation and recalibration.” And we will change personal prayers to better identify the Lord’s will.

By creating and maintaining contracts, women acquire “strengths that improve their abilities” and spiritual gifts are amplified to fulfill their responsibilities, she said.

“(God) knows all his children,” President Johnson said. “He knows people here on the sea islands of Indonesia. He will never forget you and you will not tire of his patience. I testify that he loved us.

President Johnson also invited women to prepare to go to the temple. The future temples in Jakarta were announced in April 2023.

“Don’t wait until the temple is dedicated to Jakarta,” she said. “Preparation now so you can learn and experience the meaning of being blessed with priesthood power.”

In Indonesia, church statistics show that 24 congregations have over 7,700 church members.

District meetings in Sri Lanka

President Johnson served his church members at a district meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka, off the southeast coast of India in the Indian Ocean.

“They differ in a clear and happy way because of their faith in Jesus Christ and their disciples,” Johnson wrote in a social media post shared on May 22.

Many of the women travelled over eight hours to come to the meeting, she said.

“They are beautiful examples of the consistency of the disciples of Jesus Christ.”

In Sri Lanka, church statistics show that four congregations have over 1,700 church members.

Asia’s President Johnson ministry continues in Thailand and Nepal.
