According to the published report, Christian tombs in three cemeteries in the special territories of Jogyakarta, Indonesia, were destroyed from May 16th to 19th.

On Java, at least 10 Christian Graves in the Nagetak Public Cemetery in the village of Batretno in Bantan, Bantal Regency and Jogya Carta have been damaged. According to BBC.com, five other graves in Barwaalti Public Cemetery, in Pabayan village, Kotage, Yogyakarta, also lasted Yogyakarta.

“As a wife whose husband has passed away, I am sad,” said Sri Hana Scarti, whose husband’s body was buried in a public cemetery in Nignerak, according to Kompas.com. “After I got back from church, I only learned about the destruction of the tomb on Sunday.”

She said her relatives discovered the Adventures while cleaning her husband’s grandmother’s grave.

“When he saw my husband’s grave, he saw it was seriously damaged,” she shed tears Sri Hana Skarti said in a report on Kompas.com, published on YouTube. “The graves of other non-Muslims have also been damaged.”

Police reported that at least two Christian tombs were also destroyed elsewhere in Yogikarta. According to Tempo.co, on May 19, Bantur Police spokesman I Nengah Jeffry Prana Widnyana said two non-Muslim tombstones were damaged in Jalananhamlet in the village of Pangungarjo in the sewing district of Bantilgency.

In addition to breaking the wooden crosses of Jaranan Hamlet’s two graves, the assailant broke the concrete crossings and gravestones and damaged ceramics in the grave, leaving holes and debris, BBC.com reported.

According to Cnnindonesia.com, police arrested the perpetrators of the Addicted Sec in all three cemeteries on Wednesday (May 21). The perpetrator is a male student at a public junior high school in the Bantur area and is reportedly unmotivated by religion, said Kotaged, the police chief, who was identified as Basunkawa (May 20).

“We found no indication from the findings of the investigation and the statements of the perpetrator that the motivation was related to ethnicity, religion, race, and between groups (referring to Suku Agama, Ras Dan Antargolongan or Sara, social and political issues).” “This was purely an individual act, and the perpetrator had no relation to any particular group or ideology.”

According to Detik.com, Basungkawa said the suspect suffered from a mental disorder rather than being motivated by hatred or intolerance. He performed his actions on his own, using only stones, he said.

Official website of Yoga Karta Special Regional Government jogjaprov.go.id. He states that hatred and intolerance are not motives for expediency.

Prabadarana, who became a pastor of the Bethel Church of Indonesia (GBI), who became a novelist in Surabaya, suggested that there could have been a religious motive.

“I think there’s a religious emotional element in this case,” Putu told Morningstar News. “But we need to investigate whether the assailant is drunk or taking drugs.”

According to BBC.com, Lucia Peppy, a psychology expert at Gadjamada University, urged the public to be careful about how they responded to the incident.

Past incidents

The destruction and exaggeration of Christian tombs in this area first occurred in December 2018. In December 2018, the summit of the cross in a Catholic cemetery was cut into a T-shaped cemetery at the cemetery of Albertus Slamet Sugiardi, and according to Tempo.co, at Jambon Cemetery in Pabayan village, Kotage.

In addition to removing the Catholic symbol from the cemetery, the community has expressed its desire to designate it exclusively to Muslims.

In response to this incident, the governor of Yogyakarta and the sultan Sri Sultan Hamenk Bwono X denied the perception that Yogyakarta was intolerant.

On April 6, 2019, several crosses were pulled out and partially burned at the Bethesda Mikan Cemetery complex on Gejayan Street, Suleman, Yogyakarta. After investigating the incident, local police told media that the motive for the cemetery’s sec has not yet been determined, but there is no evidence of fraud and that the investigation will continue.
