For almost two centuries, Latter-day Saint missionaries of Jesus Christ Church have found creative ways to share the message of Jesus Christ. From sermons on bustling city streets to social media contacts, they have been trying to reach the people they are.

Today, that tradition of innovation continues in a unique way through radio waves. According to a release from the church’s Spanish newsroom in El Triunfo in Ecuador, missionaries are embracing local radio as the latest tool to share the restored gospel of Christ.

Every Saturday, Ecuadorian missionary Guaiakil South Mission shares spiritual thoughts and messages of faith and hope through Radio Ecodenarangit.

On Saturday, May 10th, missionaries joined us to share a special Mother’s Day message.

Teaching women’s influence, Elder Giuliano Echevalia testified about his own mother and the advice she often gives him.

“I can think of many moments when I needed advice from my mother. I needed her with her,” he said.

Elder Ekebaria explained that her perspective was necessary multiple times when she was faced with a decision. He cited President Russell M. Nelson as testifying to the power of women.

Speaking to a woman in October 2018, President Nelson said, “Men can and often convey the love of their Heavenly Father and Savior to others. But women have a special gift for it – God’s donation. You have the ability to feel when someone needs it.

Elder Benjamin Witherspoon, who led the conversation, shared his love for his mother.

“Without the pure love of Christ, we will not be anything. My mother has this gift. I will testify to it,” he said.

Church member Ivan Damien Quito, who joined them, concluded the discussion with an invitation to the children: “Love your mother and respect them.”

In other weeks, missionaries testified to the Book of Mormon, the General Conference, the Living Prophets, and other principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

On April 26th, Elder Witherspoon was joined by Elder Aaron Garcia and President Jaime S. Gonzalez, president of the Elttoriun for Ecuadorian district. Together, they taught listeners about the Book of Mormon.

Elder Garcia began by testifying that the Bible is God’s Word and a witness to Jesus Christ. He then explained that the Book of Mormon was another witness to Jesus Christ. He invited listeners to read and pray to find out if it was true or not.

“We know that the Book of Mormon is true. If we study with faith and pondering and find the answer, we will receive them,” he said.

President Gonzalez spoke about his experience of coming to understand the truth behind the Book of Mormon.

“When I had my experiences, I had to read, I had to ask my Heavenly Father in prayer, and I had to make sure this book was true.” He replied, “My answer was that while reading this book I felt more knowledge and peace in my heart. I was able to feel that it was right.”

Elder Witherspoon was closed by providing information for local church services and invited listeners to learn more about Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon.

During the radio programme, the missionaries shared that they are part of an ongoing effort to bring light and love to the community, reminding listeners that there is hope through faith, regardless of their challenges.

The broadcast, which airs every Saturday at 10am, is another way missionaries reach out and continues a legacy of innovation and dedication that has defined missionary work from the start.
