A shocking new study finds that abortion drugs, which the FDA has long been reported to be safe and effective, are actually “more dangerous,” and that women are at risk of being infected with sepsis, infection, bleeding, and even hospitalisation.

The Ethics and Public Policy Center released a new analysis of data from over 800,000 women prescribed Mifepristone, finding that many of the participants suffer from serious side effects from the drug.

Mifepristone is the most commonly used drug in chemical abortions and is now reportedly used in more than six of 10 abortions in the United States.

The findings were published in a study called “The harm of abortion drugs.” Insurance data reveals that one in ten patients experiences serious adverse events. Data were compiled from HIPAA compliant analyses through the All-Wage Claims Database, which includes 865,727 Mayfepristone abortions from 2017 to 2023.

In nearly 11% of cases, women experienced sepsis, infection, bleeding, or other serious adverse events within 45 days of taking the drug.

That figure, as reported on drug labels, is 22 times higher than the original summary diagram “less than 0.5%” in clinical trials.

“In light of this study, we urge the FDA to revive stronger patient safety protocols and completely rethink Mifepristone’s approval. Women are better than abortion drugs,” urged the study’s authors, Ryan Anderson and Jamie Brian Hall.

“Simply put, mifepristone, used in real-world conditions, is not “safe and effective,” they added.

American United For Life, which began the study in collaboration with the EPPC, cites FDA’s trial data on the drug as inaccurate and outdated.

“Danco Laboratories sells Mifeprex as a “safe and effective abortion drug,” but our research is investigating that, as is currently practiced in the US, manufacturers and FDA rely on clinical trial results of a total of 30,966 participants, experiencing less than 0.5% of side reactions.

The researchers argue that the latest findings should go back to previous guidelines that the FDA states that it should only be administered in clinics, clinics or hospitals, under the supervision of a physician who can assess the age of pregnancy in embryos and diagnose reextral pregnancy. Furthermore, it suggests that the drug is only prescribed to women who have been confirmed by their doctors in the first 7 weeks of pregnancy.

This certainly is not a guideline that women can receive medication today. Many women can mail mifepristone by email after completing a virtual (telehealth) visit with their doctor. In some cases, the drugs are actually mailed to states that ban abortions.
