The first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints set a groundbreaking date for the four homes of the Lord. These include two Nigerian temples, one in Hungary and the other in Brazil.

The groundbreaking ceremony of Nigeria Temples, Lagos Nigeria, Natal Brazil, and Benin City, is scheduled for three consecutive times on May 10th, 17th and 24th, respectively, on May 10th, 17th and 24th, and the ceremony at the Budapest Hungarian Temple is scheduled for June 21st.

These upcoming groundbreaking information, as well as information on external renderings of temples in Lagos and Benin city, were first published in a March 24 news release on Churchofjesuschrist.org.

Elder Alfred Kyong, 70-year-old president of the Western African region, will host the groundbreaking stage at the Lagos Temple on May 10th.

This will be the Lord’s one-storey home, which is approximately 19,800 square feet. It is located on a 2.7 acre site at the intersection of Rumens Road and Bourdillon Road in Ikoi district of Lagos, Nigeria. Additionally, the site plans an arrival centre and patron housing.

The mission in western Africa, including both Nigeria and Ghana, was organized in 1980. Its name was later changed to the Nigeria Lagos Mission in 1985. Three years later, in 1988, the first Nigerian stock was established.

Today, Nigeria’s 810 congregations have nearly 233,000 Latter-day Saints.

Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran, the first counselor of 70 and Western President of Africa, will host the groundbreaking stage at the Benin City Temple on May 24th.

It will be a two-storey structure, approximately 30,700 square feet. It was built on a 2.17 acre site and stands on a 2.17 acre site on 16 commercial avenue in Benin city in Edo state, southern Nigeria. The construction plan includes an arrival centre and patron housing.

Nigeria currently houses the Avanigerian Temple, the Lord’s House dedicated to 2005. In addition to the temples of Lagos and Benin, three other temples are in the planning stage.

Budapest Hungarian Temple

Elder Reuben V. Ariad, 70 years old and president of central Europe, will host the groundbreaking stage on June 21st at Budapest Temple.

The temple, a one-storey building that weighs approximately 18,000 square feet, will be built on 5.92 acres of ground. Its site – located at the intersection of Koxis Sandor út and Borsicakuff Ukka in the Halsanirezit district of Budapest, Hungary – includes an arrival centre and patronage homes.

The missionaries first arrived in Hungary in 1885, but due to political restrictions restricting missionary activities, the church did not receive official approval from the Hungarian government until 1988. In that year, the missionaries were extremely successful as appointments had to be scheduled three weeks ago.

Today, Hungary has over 5,000 Latter-day Saints in 21 congregations.

Elder Mark D. Eddie, the 70-member Brazilian regional president and second counselor, will preside over the groundbreaking of the temple of the birth on May 17th.

The building will be a one-storey temple, approximately 19,800 square feet. Stands on the 5.53 acre site of AV. Cinador Salgado Fillo is located in the Nova Parnamurim district of Parnamurim in Rio Grande Do Norte, Brazil.

He began his sermon in southern Brazil in 1928. By the time the first Sao Paulo Brazilian temple in both Brazil and South America was dedicated in 1978, the country’s membership reached 54,000.

Brazil currently houses around 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in a congregation of around 2,200, and 23 temples are under construction or announced.
