Immigration is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It’s a conversation filled with emotions, political rhetoric and deep embrace. But as a Christian, the issue is not just about policy and parties, but about truth. What does the Bible actually say about the role of borders, nations and governments?

Pastor Jack Hibbs recently tackled the issue and his perspective is worth considering. Not because it coincides with a particular ideology, but because it begins in the right place: God’s Word, not emotions.

1. The dangers of emotionally driven theology

In many cases, discussions about immigration are supported by personal feelings rather than biblical truth. But, as Hibbs points out, it’s a dangerous approach. You have an emotional theology, but that’s wrong. ”

Emotions can cloud judgment. They change with culture, news cycles, or latest trending topics. But the Bible? It remains the same.

2. Yes, the Bible speaks at the border

The general argument is that Christians should support depriving boundaries from love. But does the Bible actually teach that?

Hibbs References 17:26-27, Paul told us:

In other words, borders are not human inventions. They are ordained to God. Even Jesus used the image of a sheep fold in which the shepherd protects herds within certain boundaries (John 10:10).

3. The hypocrisy of open border advocacy

Many of the loudest voices demanding open borders live behind the gated community, locking doors at night and hoping for safety from their families. This contradiction is difficult to ignore.

“If you don’t think we should have borders, why do you lock your door at night? Why pay for homeowner insurance?” Hibbs asks.

It is easy to call others to carry the burden of unidentified immigration, but few are willing to live according to the criteria they preach.

4. The role of government in supporting order

The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the need for government to maintain order and justice. Daniel 2:44 and Romans 13 remind us that for this very reason, the governing authority is appointed by God.

Hibbs warns against rejecting these principles. That’s the law. ”

If we value law and order in our homes and communities, why don’t we expect the same from our country?

5. Heaven itself has its boundaries

If the border is immoral, why does Revelation 21 describe heaven as a city with walls and gates? Why does it distinguish between the inside and the outside?

Hibbs makes it clear: “In heaven there is a wall. In heaven there is a gate. The Bible says that everyone outside the wall is co-sick.”

Clearly, borders serve their purpose. Not on the planet, but forever.

6. The Road to Compassionate Reform

Contrary to popular belief, enforcing immigration laws is not about cruelty, nor about justice. However, Hibbs admits that the current system is broken and needs to be fixed.

This is not about mass deportation or eye-opening. It is restoring the order while moving forward on a fair path.

Immigration is a complex issue, but the Bible offers clarity. Countries, borders, and laws are part of God’s design. Compassion is essential, and so is the truth.

A truly biblical approach does not ignore the reality of borders. It accepts them as part of God’s order to the world. And if there are walls in heaven itself, then perhaps we should reconsider the idea that putting them on earth is somehow Christian.
