More than a month after Kathy Tenedrio’s son Matthew was killed in a New Year’s terrorist attack in New Orleans, she relies on her faith to overcome the rapid waves of emotions.

Listen to the latest episodes of “Quick Start”

On Sunday, Tenedorio and her husband Louis were invited to the 2025 Super Bowl along with the first responder and other victims’ families to honor the lives of those who were lost.

She told CBN News that the scene was “very moving.”

“They honored the 14 victims,” Tenedrio said. “It was just beautiful.”

She said the whole experience was deeply “consolation” and made her and her husband “feel special.” .

The family was joined by members of the New Orleans Fire Department, New Orleans EMS and New Orleans Police Department.

She also shared that President Donald Trump, who was on the scene at the Super Bowl, came down to meet with the families of her and the other victims. She called the experience “very amazing.”

“It was a little bit of a moment, but he was very kind,” she said. Trump waved his father’s hand and thanked him for his past military service. “It was very, very, very, very amazing.”

Tenedrio said it was very important that Trump was with the victims, allowing him to stay in the suite, but took time to take photos and talk to his family and first responders. He said he felt that it was extremely important.

“I feel it’s very important to him,” she said.

Tenedrio also spoke about how she was personally carried after Matthew’s death, stating that she does her best she can and relies on faith to navigate pain and uncertainty. Ta.

“I go to church every Sunday,” she said. “I read the Bible. I pray. I just… hold on my faith.”

She and her husband return to work and while they adapt to their new normal, the trauma that unfolds continues to stab. She finds peace and comfort in her church and community.

Tenedrio also expresses gratitude for finding the closure and believes in God that he united her with the policeman who was with Matthew before his death. She called the interaction with this officer a “miracle.” She learned that it had finally unfolded and was not given the details she had previously wanted.

“We don’t have an autopsy report yet,” she said. “We were at least a great guy. He was a Catholic, he was such a great guy and I prayed for him…it’s too beautiful.”

Tenedrio continued. “It brings peace to me. No further answers are needed. His attitude towards death is murder. It never changes. …He is resting. He is peaceful, wonderful, kind. A man was making that transition with him.”
