A mission founded by an iconic figure in the auto industry is helping young adult Gen Z Christians share their faith more confidently and effectively on social media.
A new guide titled “From Scroll to Soul: A Gen Z Guide to Confidently Sharing God’s Love Online” was announced by Ignite America at last week’s National Religious Broadcasters Convention. The ministry is headed by Barry Meguiar of Meguiar’s Inc., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automotive wax and cleaning products.
The guide, a copy of which was shared with The Christian Post, says there is “a resurgence of faith in Jesus” in the United States, especially among young people.
“This is more than just a wave, it’s a movement. And it’s growing. Your generation isn’t waiting for permission to speak out about their beliefs,” the preface states.
“But there’s still one big problem: Many people want to share their faith, but they just don’t know how to do it honestly and confidently, without it coming across as weird or preachy. That’s where this toolkit comes in.”
Megia, the third-generation president of a prominent California-based car care products company, told CP that the inspiration for the guide came during a recent speaking engagement with a primarily Gen Z audience.
The 83-year-old said he was pleasantly surprised by the audience’s enthusiasm.
“No one was talking on the phone. They just stared, listened and took notes. Then they stayed for about an hour and a half,” Meguire said.
“I never thought young people would be interested in what old people have to say, but I realized there was an interesting message for them,” Megia said. “So, from then on, we decided that we needed to get serious about this issue and help Gen Z get to the truth.”
“Basically, that’s when I said, let’s get busy and write an e-book for them and help them understand what this is all about and how easy it is to completely change their lives.”
The “From Scroll to Soul” toolkit covers a variety of topics related to social media outreach. This helps readers understand what type of creator they are, from “disruptors” and “encouragers” to “teacher” and “witness.”
Each creator type is suitable for different social media platforms. For example, Disrupter creators are best posted on Instagram and TikTok platforms, while Teacher creators are best posted on Facebook, Threads, X, and YouTube.
The guide lays out a multi-step process for responding to troll accounts, stating that they may need to be “blocked, muted, or reported as appropriate.”
When asked what he hoped Gen Z readers would take away from the new guide, Megia said he believes Gen Z Christians can be “fulfilled” just by “going through the motions” of faith.
“We’re talking about how we connect, how we share our stories, and how we make change,” he added. “You can actually make a difference.”
“When I get to heaven, it doesn’t matter how many bottles of car wax I sold. When I get to heaven, it doesn’t matter how many people are in heaven because of my influence. God gives us influence. The more we use our influence for God to save people, the more influence God gives us.”
