This week’s “Come, Come, Follow Me” study guide covers Doctrines and Contracts 41-44, including Edward Partridge’s call to be the church’s first bishop.
Below are some quotes from past and present church leaders regarding these sections of the Doctrine and Covenant.
Doctrine and Contract 41
“As true disciples, our main concern must be the welfare of others, not personal proof. Questions and criticism give us the opportunity to reach out to others and demonstrate that they are important to our heavenly Father and us. We, like Edward Partridge, say, “His heart is pure before me, and he has no voice.”
– The late Elder Robert D. Hales, then a quorum member of the 12 apostles, General Assembly, October 2008, “Christian Courage: The Price of Disciples”
“‘Those who receive my laws and do it, the same is my disciple. And he should take it and not do it.
“Well, what we do and don’t do determine our status before him.
“It’s not just his church membership that he asks, he doesn’t read the Bible or pay just one thing.
“Choice is placed before us – secular or salvation. Which is it? There is no intermediate foundation for this question. Luke and obedience are spurred by the Lord.
– The late Elder Mark E. Petersen, then, in general conference in October 1973, a member of the 12 councils, “What will a man give?”
Doctrine and Contract 42
“When we learn the truth, the Lord gives us the opportunity to do what he will do if he is here today. Indeed, he has taught us what we must do.” And you will come out with the power of my spirit, preaching two of my gospels, two of my name, lifting up your voice, and proclaiming my words like Trump. Young people are unique. ”
– Elder Denelson Silva, Directorate General 70, October 2022 General Assembly, “The Courage to Proclaim the Truth”
“Love is a deep sense of devotion, concern and love. The greatest example of God’s love for God’s children is found in the infinite tone sin of Jesus Christ. Love for God and our fellow people is a characteristic of Jesus Christ’s disciples. We recall these principles of the Bible.
“The Lord says to us, “If you love me, and keep my commandments” (John 14:15; see also Doctrine and Covenant 42:29). ”
– Elder Arture Jose de Matos Miranda, 70 years old, in the December 2021 article, “Christmas: “Israel Hope””
“The Lord told the prophet Joseph Smith, “The elders, priests and teachers of this church must teach the principles of my gospel in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon, and teach the perfection of the gospel and perfection of the gospel” (D&C 42:12).
“I have put it simply, the Gospel Principles are doctrinal guidelines for the exercise of justice in moral institutions. The principles come from the broader gospel truths and provide direction and standards as they follow the path of covenant.
“The principles of the gospel that we learn, understand, and live strengthen our faith in the Savior, deepen our devotion to him, and invite numerous blessings and spiritual gifts into our lives. The principles of justice help us to look beyond our personality and self-centered desires by offering a valuable perspective of eternal truth by challenging different situations.
– Elder David A. Bednar, quorum of the 12 Apostles, General Conference in April 2021, “My Gospel Principles”
“In the church, we not only learn the doctrine of God, but we experience its application. As the body of Christ, the members of the church’s pastors are facing one another to one another to the reality of everyday life. We are all incomplete. Covenant 42:45.”
– General Conference in October 2015, D. Todd Christofferson, Elder of the 12 Apostles, “Why Church”
Doctrine and Contract 43

“In the church, we attend many meetings, but we don’t go to these meetings just to attend, the Lord expects us.
“And now I will give you a commandment.
“And therefore you will be directed in the laws of my church, sanctified by what you have received, and you will bind yourself to act in all holiness before me” (D&C 43:8-9).
“When you attend a meeting, regardless of your calling, you must instruct and enlighten each other, share the privilege and responsibility of being sanctified by what you have learned, and then bound by all holiness before the Lord.”
– In an article in Riahorna in October 2021, Elder Jorg Klebingat, Directorate General, 70 years old,
“I testify to the fourth of the earth that Jesus Christ is alive. He exhorts us: “Learn, and hear the nation of the earth, and the word of God who made you” (D&C 43:23).
– Elder Claudio D. Zivic, then, in April 2014, Directorate, 70, “Don’t take the wrong way.”
“It is true that we are ordinary and incomplete in many ways, but we have the perfect master who produced perfect tone sin, calling for his grace and the priesthood. As we repent and cleanse our souls, we are promised that we will be taught and awarded the power from the high (see Doctrine and Covenant 43:16).”
– Elder Todd Christofferson of 12 Apostles Quorum at the General Conference in October 2012, “Brothers, we have something to do.”
“Developing Christ-like attributes in our lives is not an easy task, especially when we begin to deal with real life away from generality and abstraction. Testing is about practicing what we declare. The check of reality requires that Christ-like attributes become visible in our lives. “He) gradually improve our ability to act in all holiness (D&C 43:9).
“Developing Christ-like attributes can be a painful process. We must be prepared to accept direction and corrections from the Lord and his servants. With its music and spoken language, this global conference offers spiritual power, direction and blessings from “high” (D&C 43:16. Dear friend, and when our hearts are fully repented, it fills our souls.”
– 12 Apostles’ quorum diet elder F. Uchtdorf, October 2005 General Assembly, “Attributes of Christ – Winds Under Our Wings”
“The idea of eternal progression is one of the most powerful ideas in our theology. When we soar, when we are upset and challenge, this is certainly one of the “eternal solemnity” that “our) minds are commanded to rest (D&C 43:34). ”
– President Darrin H. Oaks, then a member of the October 1995 general conference, “The quorum of the 12 Apostles,” a “strong idea.”
“The Bible can light our way, and our testimony becomes a light from within. The voice of the angels can be the voice of our beloved prophet and his servants. Each new day is an opportunity to bind ourselves to act according to what we know (see Doctrine and Covenant 43:8).
– Dead sister Betty Joe N. Jepsen and later “by invitation” as the first counselor for the general presidential position in October 1992.
Doctrine and Contract 44

“Well, we will meet at this Priesthood meeting, because it is not who we are. We will meet here tonight in the name of Jesus Christ, with confidence that His tone sin will be given to all of us.

– The late President Ezra Taft Benson, then President Ezra Taft Benson, a member of the General Conference of the Prophets, in October 1972.
