In a powerful moment of raging spiritual warfare across America, Southern California mothers were silent during a warm Ventura City Council meeting to pray in the name of Jesus.
The March 18 meeting was convened to discuss controversial policy proposals that will serve as sanctuary to make Ventura a sanctuary for transgender affirmation practices, including minors.
As reported by Christian Post, Tallinn Swain, a mother of six and marketing manager for American moms, approached the council with a broken heart about her daughter’s “socially transitioning in school” without her consent.

“School changed her name and gender in class and told her that it would be protected from me,” Swain said.
But what sparked in that moment was her decision to abandon the prepared statement in favor of spirit-led prayer.
“Father of God, I will come to you in the name of Jesus. I pray, Father, that you will demolish the base of this place,” Swain prayed before being interrupted by a large boo from the crowd and a sharp responsibilities from Ventura Mayor Jannet Sanchez Palacios: “We will finish your comments.”
Despite the hostility, Swain refuses to be silent and boldly refuses to end her prayers. “I pray all this in the name of Jesus, Son, Father, and the Holy Spirit. … Jesus is the king of the kings, and he is the lord of the LORD.”
This was not a planned act of rebellion. “I wasn’t going to pray,” explained Swain. “But when I found out I had only had one minute to speak, I knew my prepared comments were too long. At that moment I asked God what he wanted to do to me in my 60 seconds.
Swain’s prayers, and attempts to silence it, have become a virus, sparked conversations among the public, and encouraged legal experts to gain weight.
“The concern that prayers are being violated by prayers in public comments is misplaced,” said Erin Smith, Associate Advisor at the Fast Liberty Institute. “Private citizens speak on their behalf, not on behalf of the government.”
This moment at Ventura is not isolated. This is a snapshot of the growth of mental wars erupting in communities across the country. The fight isn’t just about policy. It goes beyond the right to publicly call God in an age of truth, family and cultural crisis.
Swain later rebutted. “I later expressed that in his year when a man from the community came to me and attended hundreds of Ventura City Council meetings, I’ve never seen anyone stop praying. For me, it was evidence of the power of prayer.”

The city’s controversial community autonomy, rights and equality policies were briefly drawn from post-back considerations, but is expected to return to the table soon.
“As Christians, we believe that we cannot stop the insanity of these policies without God and without people facing what is happening,” Swain said.
This moment was not only political, but also prophetic. And as cultures continue to change, God’s people must be prepared to not only speak, but to pray boldly, regardless of cost.
