Members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a National Day of Service across Mexico on Saturday, Dec. 6. Activities included cleaning public spaces, gardening, painting buildings, maintaining schools, and repairing local structures.

The initiative brought together volunteers, neighbors and local government to share the light of Christ while improving public areas and helping those in need. The initiative, held during the Christmas season, called on everyone to experience and share the joy of the light of Christ through worship and service.

As reported in the church’s Mexico Newsroom, the event coincided with the International Day of Volunteers, which was held the day before.

The National Day of Service, titled “Embrace His Light,” resulted in thousands of hours of service and widespread engagement on social media under the hashtag #NationalDayOfService2025. Below are some activity highlights.

The clean-up campaign took place in Villas Universitas in Torreon, Coahuila and Altamira, Tamaulipas, and involved multiple agencies and private organizations. In Altamira, the city council coordinated the day’s activities. Additional cleanup projects took place at Habitat Café Combate Park in Hermosillo, Sonora, and along Avenida Alberto Garcia in Papantla, Veracruz.

Parks, public gardens and shelters were cleaned in Panuco and Ebano, Veracruz state, and volunteers also donated clothing and food. A similar effort was carried out in Saltillo, Coahuila.

In many areas, volunteers made large donations to local charities and organizations.

In Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, several congregations worked together to donate supplies to a teen orphanage, with state officials present. In Ciudad Victoria, volunteers distributed bread and hot chocolate to patients and families at the general hospital.

Church members and friends in Mexico State served at a local shelter, benefiting 27 children through recreational activities, blanket donations, and green space restoration.

Several improvement projects have also been completed. In Mexicali, Baja California, approximately 150 volunteers helped restore Hidalgo Park, painting, gardening and restoring recreational courts.
