The attorney for a Christian bakery, who targeted California officials for refusing to make cakes for same-sex couples, hopes to bring the shocking case to the US Supreme Court.

Adèle Keim, a senior adviser at Becket, told CBN News that it has been a long-standing battle after Bakersfield, California’s owner, Bakersfield, refused to make cakes for same-sex couples.

“It was Cathy’s faith that started this fight,” Kame said. “Kathy Miller is a woman of faith. She is a creative person. She has her hands on all sorts of things. She is a wedding planner and has taught at Christian schools for years.

Once marijuana was legalized in California, Miller began asking her customers to make her comfortable, asking for weed brownies and other sex-themed treats, so she set the standard on what she was unacceptable.

“She created what she called the design standard,” Kayme said. Miller has such limitations, such as the decision to avoid grotesque Halloween themes, avoiding adult-themed products and not creating products to celebrate divorce or gay marriages.

In 2017, the situation came to mind when same-sex couples demanded a wedding cake. Miller reportedly politely declined and instead offered to send them to the bakery.

However, the couple reportedly became frustrated and filed a complaint.

“They set firestorm on social media,” Kayme said. “They accused her of being sternly and completely turned her back. She wasn’t trying to do it.

Kayme said Miller was being persecuted by his government and pointed out that the case was volleyed through the court. Baker recorded a victory in which she was not forced to oppose her honest opinion, but California won the appeal and the California Supreme Court refused to hear the case.

This means Miller will appeal to the US Supreme Court, and Kayme hopes the judiciary will spark a fight for religious freedom.

“It’s California’s Civil Rights Office that has been chasing Cathy for the last seven or eight years,” she said. “During the last seven or eight years, the U.S. Supreme Court has said twice about wedding vendors who have conscientiously challenged “back-off. back-off.” They said that in 303 Creative, which includes wedding website designers, was a masterpiece cake shop that is also involved in Colorado cake artists. ”

Kayme continued. “So the US Supreme Court spoke very clearly and the California courts were deaf.”

The dispute appears to be argued that, according to Came, California, believes that civil rights law surpasses the US Constitution.

“The US Constitution was intended to protect the rights of all Americans, no matter where they live in the country,” she said.

Eventually, she said California finesse the mirror and “If the state doesn’t do all the marriage cakes she wants from, then I’ll stop her from doing marriage cakes.”

Beyond legal consequences, Kayme said her client also faces rape, hatred and the threat of endless streams of messages from people who are angry at her position. According to Kayme, these attacks have also been played out against her staff, and California continues to drive it as California helps promote the disruption.

As CBN News previously reported, Miller spoke openly about the day she declined the cake and everything afterwards.

“I prayed very hard and asked the Lord to give wisdom,” Miller told CBN News in 2023.

These faith-based sentiments may not have shocked many who frequently visited the bakery, as Christian music often unfolds internally and books and Bibles are on display.

Miller also addressed the fact that she introduced the couple to another person she described as “an incredible decorator.” In the past, this option has worked well for customers in similar situations.

But this time it was different.

“I was shocked and I know they were upset, but I didn’t think it would go this far,” Miller said. “Within two hours, we didn’t realize we were being hit by hate mail, death threats, rape threats. The media was being attacked by our bakeries.”

As Kem and Beckett tried to incorporate the case into the Supreme Court, the lawyers encouraged prayers for their clients.

“Pray for Cathy… pray for those around them who have stood with them through all of this persecution,” she said. “And if you have someone in your life standing up for their faith… protect them in your prayers.”
