(CP) Armenian patriarchy in Jerusalem has urgently called for Israeli authorities to seize and halt government plans to auction property that has been owned by Armenian Christian heads for more than 1,700 years. It has been published.

The Patriarch is caught up in a legal battle over alleged local government tax liabilities dating back to 1994. The city of Jerusalem has issued an order to seize property in the Armenian district of Jerusalem’s old town, but the church claims that it has been levied. arbitrarily arbitrarily by city officials without legal proceedings.

In a joint statement from the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the head of the Church, church officials said that the Israeli government had “established government commissioners to enforce debt decisions without judicial scrutiny and negotiate such issues.” He accused him of trying to defiance against the association. In good faith.”

Property tax, known in Israel as Arnona Tax, is the annual local government property tax imposed on local residents. Taxes collected once a year cover the period from January 1st to December 31st of the same year.

However, patriarchy, which claims direct apostolic succession, dating back to Jesus’ brother James, poses a threat to other Christian systems in Israel by gathering untested debts and saying it “undermines religious freedom.” They say it may give it.

“This action is the basis of all other rights to attempt the right to exist in the Orthodox Armenian Church through the confiscation of assets, and to deprive all the necessary economic resources to rob the necessary economic resources. Undermining religious freedom. Local Armenians of the pastoral care of their churches,” the statement reads. “This reckless move sets a dangerous precedent that puts orthodox Armenian patriarchy at stake and puts Christian institutions at stake throughout the holy land.”

Quote from one Corinthians 12:26 – “If one member is suffering, everything will suffer together” – Patriarchy freezes all foreclosure proceedings on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials and called for help to resume speaking to reach an amicable solution on this. Problems in the spirit of justice. ”

In addition to the government’s foreclosure threat, Armenian patriarchy saw a surge in attacks on Christian and church property in Israel in 2023.

On January 28, 2023, two young Jewish men attacked a vehicle carrying two Armenians near Armenian compounds. And when the victims asked why, they were scattered in their eyes, according to Armenian patriarchy.

The victim was treated at a hospital and reported the attack to police. An hour after police arrested one of the assailants, a large group of young Jewish men tried to climb into a patriarchal building with the intention of removing the flag and Armenian flag.

According to the report, Armenian men prevented them from doing so and forced the Jewish group to escape, but some members returned and began to provoke the Armenian youth.

According to data from the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, Christians make up about 1.9% of Israeli population, of which 75.3% are Arab Christians. Jews make up 73% of Israel’s 9.8 million people, and ultra-Orthodox members make up 13% of the total population. Arabs accounted for 21.1% of the total population.
