As the new year begins, families begin studying the Old Testament of Come, Follow Me, and many children move into the Church’s new Primary class, resources from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can help parents and Primary teachers teach their children.
Primary President Susan H. Porter expressed gratitude to all those who serve and teach children around the world.
“Every day you may feel that your contributions as a teacher, music leader, or member of a Primary presidency are unnoticed and unappreciated, but you are making an everlasting impact on the souls of the children you teach,” President Porter said. “They are pure and sinless sent from our Heavenly Father. Through your songs and words, your testimony can deepen their love for the Savior Jesus Christ and impact their whole life.”
Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor in the Primary general presidency, urges parents:
“Our sacred responsibility is to create in our homes a sanctuary, a refuge from the storms of life. We do this while actively and passionately filling the hearts and minds of our children with so much light, truth and goodness that there is no room for the darkness of the world,” she said.
She pointed to the counsel at Deuteronomy 6:6-7. “These words that I command you today are in your hearts; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.”
Below are some examples of resources and ideas that parents and elementary school teachers can use in 2026.
“Come, Follow Me” Old Testament
Parents and elementary school teachers can use the materials in the Come, Follow Me handbook to study the Old Testament. The lessons include ideas for teaching children at home or at church, including full-size photos and activities for each lesson.
An appendix at the back of the manual contains materials that can be used at home or in the church. For example, parents can refer to Appendix A: For Parents—Preparing Their Children for a Lifelong Course in God’s Covenant Path. Also, during the fifth Sunday of the month, Primary teachers can teach from “Appendix B: For Primary—Preparing Children for a Lifelong Walk in God’s Covenant Path.” Appendix C contains instructions for singing times and sacrament meeting presentations.
Additional resources for teaching children, including games, stories, and activities, can be found in the Gospel Library under “Follow Me.”
Printed copies of Old Testament Stories have been or will be sent to ward leaders for distribution to families with elementary-aged children. This illustrated collection of scripture stories will also be accessible digitally through the Gospel Library and the Gospel for Kids YouTube channel.
