Prayers to help us through cold, dark winter nights
By Lynette Kittle
Bible reading: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” – John 1:5
Read or listen to the following:
A few winter months, with wide darkness and cold, can make us feel low on our own. Like spiritual darkness, physical darkness has a weight that can affect our feelings, but we don’t have to forgive it.
Whether in summer or winter, Jesus can immerse us in the light day and night, regardless of the state of the physical world surrounding us. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, the light of the world. No one who follows me will walk in the darkness, but he has the light of life” (John 8:12).
Therefore, believing in Jesus Christ is natural to escape from the darkness and even run. As 1 Thessalonians 5:5 explains, we are drawn to light. “You are all children of light, children of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.”
The darkness no longer holds us
Before we accepted Christ as our Savior, darkness justly embraced us for Adam’s sin, but when Jesus came to the world and released us from his grip, it no longer made us It doesn’t have the power to suppress it. As Jesus explains, “I have entered the world as light, so that no one who believes in me should remain in the darkness” (John 12:46).
As darkness tries to overtake us, as 1 John 1:5 further explains, “This is the message we have heard from him, and the message we have declared to you: God is the light He has no darkness at all.”
Five ways to drive away the darkness
So, how do you escape the darkness when you feel low? Below are five ways to get rid of it.
1. We receive God’s life through Jesus. The first greatest way to ward off the darkness from Christ, and the life he offers us, “He was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:4). This is the method.
2. Seek God’s truth as truth and light walk hand in hand. As Jesus said in John 3:21, “But everyone who lives by truth will come into the light, so that it is clear that what they have done has been done in the eyes of God. Maybe it can.”
3. Read, study and listen to God’s Word. As the two Corinthians 4:6 explains, God’s Word makes our lives bright and bright. Knowledge of God’s glory shown in the face of Christ. ”
4. Spend time with other Christians. Spending time discussing, studying and sharing God’s Word with other believers helps us stay in His Light. , and the blood of Jesus, His son, cleanses us from all sin. ”
5. Choose to shine our light. If we feel we are crammed into the darkness, Jesus gives us the ability to break through it and live in His light. So even what may feel like our darkest day, God reminds us. “You are the light of the world; the city built on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14).
Ephesians 5:8 urges us to choose to live in His light. “You were once dark, but now you are light in the Lord. You live as a child of light.”
When we choose to shine, our soul enemies are defeated and God gives us glory. “In the same way, let your light shine before others; they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Let’s pray:
Dear Father,
Find you during the cold, dark winter days and turn our faces and focus on you. Humble us to receive your life, seek out your truth, read, study, hear your words, and help you find fellowship with other followers.
In an age when darkness may overtake us and we may feel like we are trying to make your light shine in our hearts to overcome all the darkness we may face in the coming months and years , strengthen us.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen
