Prayer to enjoy the end of summer
By Lynette Kittle
Bible Reading:
“But you may declare his praises, the royal priesthood, the holy nation, the special property of God, and you may declare his praises that have called you out of darkness to His wonderful light.” -1 Peter 2:9
The end of summer can be very sweet, but at the same time sad. You can say goodbye to nature to the warm sunshine, the perfect tree, the blue of the sky, and all the glory that reflects its glory.
As someone who loves to wake up every morning and wakes up to the warmth of summer and early light, it’s hard to say to another person for too long. To escape the rising sun as early as 4am, birds sing, awaken the trees, and create summer joys with beautiful colour arrangements of the sky.
Certainly, it’s sweet to enjoy the last day of summer as long as possible.
Why Summer Light Brings us joy
As believers of Jesus, we are drawn to the light that shined before the sun was created. As John 8:12 explains, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Some of us may believe that the sun was created on the first day of creation, as explained by Genesis 1:3-5. “And God said, ‘There is light,’ and there was light. God saw that light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God was called Light, and he was called “night.” And then there was the evening and the morning. It was the first day. ”
It’s hard for us to understand, but before the sun there was light on Earth. Many of us may be surprised to find that the sun and moon are not made until the fourth day.
Genesis 1:16-18 states, “God has made two great lights: greater light to rule the day and less light to rule the night. He has created stars. God has emptied them and gave them light to the earth, protecting day and night, and separating light from the darkness. And God has seen it good.
It is easy to forget that the sun is not our eternal source of light. Jesus is. Before the sun came, I had a son. 1 Peter 1:20 explains, “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but revealed for you at the end of these.”
Revelation 21:23 explains the kingdom of heaven and his light. “Cities do not need to make the sun or moon shine, for God’s glory gives it to the light, and the lamb is its lamp.”
So it’s no wonder our hearts are drawn to the light of summer. Because as children of light, spending time in the summer sun brings joy to our hearts. In our eternal home, we can live eternally in the light of God, without ever facing darkness again.
We carry His light with us
Jesus is Light, and we are here called Light on Earth until he returns again. “Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you become a child of light. (John 12:36).
God called us light in this world. “You were once dark, but now you are mostly light, and you live as a child of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
2 Corinthians 4:6 gives us the light of the knowledge of God, who said, “Let the light shine out of the darkness,” and gives us the light of His glory, as shown in the face of Christ. ”
Our faces often shine in autumn through summer tanning, so we are called to carry the light of God, as children of light, in the face of Christ and to be seen in the darkness.
Let’s pray:
Dear Father,
Enjoy the last day of summer and help you soak in the brilliant sunshine that reminds us of the light that Jesus and the light that he gives to each of us.
Our hearts are deeply grateful that we are children of light and darkness, as people who believe in Jesus. Forever we will live in His light.
Let us walk every day in His glorious light, and lead others to walk in His light too.
Jesus strengthens us to make His light bright and bright through us, and those who don’t know you will be drawn to you through the light of the world, your precious son, the light of the world.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen
