Former psychology said the new research showing a significant portion of Americans consult with horoscopes, tarot cards and other means “terrifying” is not surprising.

“I thought it was scary to you, but I can’t say I was totally surprised,” said Jen Niza, a former mediam-turned Christian who hosts “ex-psychic preserved” podcasts.
Nizza’s comments came in response to the latest Pew Research Center findings surrounding “new age practices such as astrology, tarot card reading, and fortune-telling.”
“A survey by the Pew Research Center in Fall 2024 found that 30% of US adults consult astrology (or constellations), or at least once a year, with a fortune teller, but most do so for fun.
Some of the other takeaways: 27% of US adults believe in astrology. The position of planets and stars can affect people’s lives. This rate is much higher among women aged 18-49 (43%), and decreases to 27% among women over 50.
One of the most interesting elements is the motivations that people get involved.
It reads “Most Americans who engage in astrology, tarot cards, or fortune telling say they do it for fun, not insights or guidance on life decisions.” “Overall, 20% of US adults say that at least one of these activities is primarily engaged “only for fun,” while 10% say that they “believe that practices provide beneficial insights to them.” ”
Despite these latter statistics, Niza provided an important warning.
“A lot of people go (to psychics and other tools) because they think it’s entertainment, but I want to discuss something,” she said. “As a former psychic, how confident are they that they don’t believe a bit? How do you know when they go to that reading, it’s not “Oh, what are they saying, what’s coming out for me on cards or astrology charts?” ”
Beyond that, Niza created another point. Motivation is less important than impact.
“You’re just doing it (or it) for entertainment, whether you believe it or not,” she said. “It’s just the truth. If you use the divination tool, you’ll be outside the boundaries of God.”
Niza said that as a human, she understands desires but warned her about the outcome.
And from her experience she spent decades as a psychic medium, working as a professional reader out of mere interest as a child.
She said that what is misunderstood is the motivation that psychic mediums have, as she said she really believes that some people working in the New Age are helping others.
“I really felt compassionate about helping people and I believed I had this gift from God,” she said. “When I was reading regularly…wherever I went, there were a number of demons who were giving me information and using me for evil.”
Ultimately, Niza believes there is a “spiritual battle” in play and a “tug of war” between God and Satan.
“It’s a battle for the soul,” Niza said.
She hopes to help people through her former spiritual salvation ministry and podcasts, and through feature films she is currently crowdfunding.
