Recently implemented public ward websites and activity sharing resources support members of the Church of Jesus Christ for Latter-day Saints.
“We are excited about this new resource and hope that another way for each of us to share our lives, open our homes, include our families, returning members, and our community to come and see.”
A recent news release on Churchofjesuschrist.org discussed new resources. Using the church calendar, ward readers can create and publish activities on the new ward website. Church members can share links to activities with friends and social media, and public activities can be viewed in online searches. This allows people to search for local Sunday worship meetings, cultural activities, service events and other social activities and find them and RSVPs.
Ward leaders can see who has shown their plans to attend the event through leaders and clerk resources and church calendar reports. This allows leaders to recognize and welcome visitors. In the future, the word reader will be automatically alerted when someone clicks on RSVP.
Elder W. Mark Bassett, executive director of the Missionary Bureau, age 70, and David N. Wideman, managing director of the Missionary Bureau, shared the story of a Texas ward, on the Church News Podcast, where he saw firsthand the benefits of this new resource.
When the ward reader posted a Word Trunk or Treat Halloween activity on the ward page, eight families who were not members of the church attended the activity after searching online for local Halloween activities for their children. Some of these families attended church that week.
Elder Jerit W. Gong of the 12 Apostles, Quorum, emphasized the importance of planning and inviting friends to oversee them in an October 2023 general meeting talk.
“Social and service can create new and lasting gospel bonds,” he said.
The Church’s Mission Bureau helped develop shared resources for activities, so church members encouraged them to describe ward activities in a way that those unfamiliar with the terminology could understand (such as “Sunday service” rather than “Sacramental Conference”). It is also encouraged to describe activities as “Christ-centric.”
To check if Ward webpages and activity sharing resources are available, go to the church meeting place locator and enter the name of the ward in the search box. Click the ward’s name and then (Activity Sharing Link) to access the Ward web page.
If that link is not available, the word reader can request activity sharing through the stake president or by sending an email to ActivitySharing@churchofjesuschrist.org.
Stakes doesn’t have their own website, but you can schedule events on your calendar. This will cause the activity to be exposed to all word pages.
Currently, activity sharing is available in Mexico, Brazil, the Pacific Islands, the US, Canada, and most Spanish-speaking regions. Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
