In his first presidency message in 2011, then President Dieter F. Uchitdorf spoke about a church member talking to a friend of another faith about the general conference.

“Do you say there are prophets or angels?” asked my friend. “And do they reveal God’s Word twice a year at a global conference?”

“Absolutely,” the members replied.

“What did they say at the last general conference?”

Elder Uchtdorf wrote:

“Does this mean that his friend finds this and says, ‘In our time, God speaks to humans and says that he can’t remember what he said?’

Below are some ways to avoid such scenes, as well as to remember and apply the messages shared during the general meeting, commit these messages to memory and prepare them to apply to your own life.

The suggestions listed here are from the “Ideas for Preparation”, “Ideas for Study”, and “General Meeting Activities for Children and Young People” sections. Two first presidency messages from President Uchtdorf, “General Assembly – No Ordinary Blessings” from September 2011 and “God’s Word” from March 2018. “Five Steps” of Liahona’s digital-only “Conference Stay with You” in March 2018. Post from @youngwomenworldwide on Instagram.

“Long before the general conference speaker makes a long walk on the podium, I give you my personal witness. “Every conference message represents countless preparations and heartfelt pleas for understanding what the Lord wants His saint to hear.

“What happens if I as a listener I match my speaker preparation with my own?”

Here’s how you can prepare before the hymn begins for Saturday morning sessions:

“As I prepare for the General Assembly, I encourage you to reflect on the questions you need to answer,” Elder Usstdorf wrote in 2011. These can be considered minds and struggles that require help. Write them down. Identify more about the first presidency and quorum members of the 12 apostles by reading their profiles at past meetings at church fjesuschrist.org or church news.review. Sister Andrea Munoz Spannaus, the second counselor for the Young Female General’s presidency, told Instagram: To read previous messages from a particular leader, you can sort the messages from the General Assembly by Speaker.Study and receive a revelation. For examples from church leaders, take a look at the “How I Am #hearhim” video series and see examples of how they felt the spirit. They could be family or friends, less active church members, or friends of other faiths.

Listening to 10 hours of sermons, songs and prayers over two days can feel like drinking from a fire hose. But here are some ways to make the most of your message.

Listen to your messages and answers to your music questions. Elder Uchtdorf write: “Answers to your specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific phrase. At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase or song. A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way for personal relations.”Look for truths instead of doubts, as suggested by Sister Katie Hughes of the Young Women general advisory council in a Young Women Worldwide Instagram video. “I expect all of these questions, so I think it’s useful.” Open up to the other answers that the Lord has prepared. Don’t discount your message just because it appears to be repetitive. Elder Uchtdorf taught that prophets use repetition as they are the law of learning. “We continue to hear messages on similar issues as the Lord teaches our hearts and hearts and makes impressions on our hearts. Taking notes on what the speaker said can help them remember the message better as they are engaged in listening more. However, Elder David A. Bednar, a quorum of the 12 Apostles, compared this to writing a large plate of Nephi. Instead, he encourages writing on a small plate or recording his own revelation and impressions. “If you are recording the individual impressions that are coming to you by the Holy Spirit, you are creating your own little plate,” he said. For young participants, protect your fingers and hearts using general meeting notebooks for young people or major children and maintain a meeting coloring or meeting square. Those or people invited can come to their home, stake center, or if given the opportunity, at Salt Lake City conference center. Follow church leaders, official church descriptions, church news, and #GeneralConference on social media. Set up and use church apps such as Gospel for Kids, Gospel Life, and Gospel Library.

At the October 2010 general conference, “Trust in God, then I’ll go,” next, President Henry B. Eyring, the first counselor for the presidency, said he received clear instructions from reading the Book of Mormon as he prepared to write his message. “I have built enough faith in God and his servants, and it is enough for us to go out and follow his advice,” he said.

Here are some ways to “get out and follow” the advice God gave at the General Conference.

Record your answers and impressions in the journal. I’ll do it soon. These memories fade faster than expected. Thinking with someone you love. Consider how the message has approached Christ. Think about what changes you will make after hearing these messages. Elder Uchtdorf wrote: “Learn and follow the spirits, and help you as Liahona, leading you to the unknown, challenging valleys and mountains ahead (see 1 Nephi 16). Share with your family. Create a goal on how to apply this principle to life every day. Be accountable to someone and share the family lessons and blessings that you have received by applying this principle as the next general conference approaches.

According to Churchofjesuschrist.org, all general meeting messages texts will be available in English in English by the end of the Wednesday and within two weeks in other languages.
