In a statement shared with CBN News, Al Robertson reflects the profound influence of his father in his life when his family rose to fame in 2012 and the hit reality show Duck Dynasty premiered in A&E.
“Well, it finally happened,” he wrote. “Those who raised me, trained me, trained me, accepted me, loved me, loved me, shared the gospel of Jesus and partnered with me, left this life and crossed to await a great resurrection.”
Rather than lamenting, Robertson expressed gratitude and hope, appealing to his Christian faith to deal with the tragic losses his family is dealing with.
“He was pleased and even relieved that he was no longer struggling with the horrifying heart-breaking disease known as Alzheimer’s,” continued Robertson. “I am also humbled to continue to bring His legacy to as many people as possible with the grace of salvation that Jesus Christ will come to Earth, death, burial, resurrection and ascension.”
He said that his father has worked with his father on books, podcasts and other projects over the past decade, being “some of the most rewarding ministry experiences” he has ever had.
“I don’t feel sad like a hopeless man, and I don’t say goodbye, but instead, “Let’s see you for a while,” he said. “As he told me over and over again in my life, especially in the past few years, ‘Al, the resurrection is looming big every day for all of us.’ Certainly it makes Dad, certainly so. ”
Other families share a strong message too. Phil’s granddaughter, Sadie Robertson, reveals one of the last things he told her. This is a powerful reminder that it will continue to move even in the wake of pain or tragedy.
Sadie also reflects her granddad’s influence on her family and her fans.
“It was his testimony that changed his life, our family’s lives, and thousands of people,” she said. “Now he is experiencing it in full well. He is living perfectly in Christ. Something new has come.”
Her father, Willie-Phil’s son, also shared his father’s final words.
“The last thing he said to me as he leaned against his weakened body was ‘You’re my brother,'” Willie wrote in an Instagram post. “That makes perfect sense to me. He always said we were colleagues in God’s Kingdom. Perhaps that’s why I always called him Phil.”
They continue to pray for the Robertson family, as they lament Phil’s loss. The family returned to television on June 1st with the premiere of “Duck Dynasty: The Resurrection.”
